News & Commentary

News and Personal Thoughts:
None.

Ravens:
First preseason game is over with a win, however, that was primarily on the shoulders of the reserves and backups, especially Curtis Painter. Offense and defense looked like crap as the O-line failed to hold long enough for Joe to make a first down, and the defense was carved up like a thanksgiving turkey by Matt Ryan. I have no answers right now, but the team and coaches sure need to find some!

Orioles:
Orioles once again ripped off a 5 game winning streak, putting them in a tie for a wild card spot. Every vital stat says that the O’s are a below average team, including starting pitchers, hitting with RISP, team Batting average. Somehow, we have managed to stay above .500 and in the wild card hunt. I’m not complaining, and if they can ride this wave through the rest of the season, we can look forward to our first winning season since last century, and remain a contender through the season. Haven’t had that to look forward to in a long time.

Alouettes
The Als (3-3) beat Winnipeg, 36-26, last Friday night to even their record, and move them in to a 3-way tie for first with Hamilton and Toronto. The Als are off this week, and will travel to Edmonton (3-2) next Friday.

Blast:
The Baltimore Blast will hold open tryouts in September at the team’s training facility Du Burns Arena. The Blast will open training camp in mid-October and start the 2012-13 MISL season in early November. See website for details.

Chesapeake Bayhawks: (Home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium)
The Bayhawks (10-3) won 13-6 over long Island on Saturday, and will host the Denver (10-3) with the regular season title on the line.

Charm:
Nothing to report.

Capitals (See website for more details):
Caps to host Columbus at Baltimore on Wednesday, September 26 for their 2nd of 7 preseason games.

Wizards (See website for more details):
The Washington Wizards announced today that Jerry Sichting will join Randy Wittman’s staff as an assistant coach.

Mystics (See website for more details):
WNBA will resume play next week, after taking an Olympic hiatus.

D.C.United (See website for more details):
DC (11-7-3) got back in to the win column with a 1-0 victory over Columbus (8-8-4) last Saturday. DC is now in 4th place, 1 point ahead of Chicago, and 2 points behind New York. Next game is Saturday at Kansas City (Tied for 1st place in Eastern Conference, 12-7-4)

What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Actually, never mind. No one is reading this anyway so you probably won’t know the difference. Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!

  1. Great job Iggy! Sloppy, ugly 1st quarter last night. Lots of stuff to fix over the next few weeks. Guess we proved our 3rd string was better than Arizona’s … er … uh … Atlanta’s 3rd string! Hope we get the real officials back soon … lots to be desired from the replacements … like knowing what city you’re in! Hope all gets better for our game next Friday against the Lions! Go Ravens!!!
