Iggy’s Baltimore Sports Report – April 6, 2013

Ravens:
Flacco is set to portray Johnny Unitas in an upcoming movie about Unitas’ life, according to Baltimore Sun. The Small budget “Unitas We Stand” (Based on Tom Callahan’s best-selling book: “Johnny U: The Life and Times of Johnny Unitas”) plans to use Flacco in the final few scenes of the 23-17 championship game against the New York Giants. A February 2014 release is planned… Ravens continued their purge of disruptive players, releasing Brandon Ayenbadejo… No news yet on the 2013 schedule, although the preseason schedule has been released. The Ravens will play at Tampa for week 1, host Atlanta and Carolina (ESPN) for weeks 2 and 3, and then finish the preseason in St. Louis.

Orioles:
The Orioles are still settling in to the new season, but currently sit atop the AL East with a 3-1 record, thanks in large part to the heroics of Chris Davis, who not only became only the 4th player in MLB history to hit a home run in the first four games of the season, but his 16 RBI in 4 games to start a season has never been accomplished since they started keeping track of RBI in 1920… Brian Roberts to the DL with a leg injury, and I am eying a few players for demotion already.

Alouettes
Als have signed Dominic Rhodes (10 season for Indianapolis, Oakland, and Buffalo), whose resume includes 113 yards and
a TD in Super Bowl 41.

Blast:
Nothing to report.

Chesapeake Bayhawks: (Home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium)
Season opens on April 27 in Florida against Rochester. Single game tickets went on sale this past Thursday.

Charm:
The Charm will open the 2013 season at Jacksonville on May 25.

Capitals (See website for more details):
With 11 games left, the Capitals have leap frogged from 10th in the conference, 2 points behind a playoff spot to the number 3 seed as they have overtaken Winnipeg for the division lead.

Wizards (See website for more details):
At 29-47, the Wizards have been eliminated from playoff contention, but have also guaranteed their best finish in 5 years.

Mystics (See website for more details):
Season opens May 27.

D.C.United (See website for more details):
United (1-3-1) lost to Sporting KC on Friday, 1-0. Next game is Saturday, when they host the New York Red Bulls.

What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Actually, never mind. No one is reading this anyway so you probably won’t know the difference. Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!
