Iggy’s Baltimore Sports Report – 7/21/2013

Ravens:
Ravens could open the season with as many as 4 starts on defense: Arthur Brown (LB), Matt Elam (S), Kyle Juszczyk (FB), and Brandon Williams (DT). Odds and predictions for the Ravens outlook are very confusing right now, but the consensus is that we are the 3rd best team in the AFC (with Denver and Houston ranked above us, respectively), and are given the pre-season edge to win the division. All eyes are on how the Ravens revamped defense will defend the Super Bowl Title. However, in my opinion, not enough attention has been paid to the loss of key WR Anquan Boldin, and how we will fill that void left by such a critical hands receiver. Note: Vonte Leach is still available and willing to be resigned by the Ravens.

Orioles:
At the break, the O’s were 2 game ahead of last years pace, and things are looking up. Two straight wins against the Rangers have pushed the O’s 12 games above .500 for the first time this season, and a half game ahead of the Rangers for the final Wild Card spot.

If the Playoffs started today…
Rank American National
1 Boston St. Louis
2 Oakland Atlanta
3 Detroit Arizona
WC1 Tampa Bay Pittsburgh
WC2 BALTIMORE Cincinnati

Alouettes
The Als lost to Calgary to fall to 1-3, tied with Hamilton and Winnipeg. Toronto is in first with a 2-2 record. Montreal hosts Edmonton (1-3) on Friday.

Blast:
See Blast website for discount tickets to Chelsea versus Roma at RFK on August 10.

Chesapeake Bayhawks: (Home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium)
The Bayhawks (7-4, 3rd, 4 GB) defeated Boston in OT on Thursday, and will travel to face undefeated Denver (11-0) on Saturday.

Charm:
The Charm’s (2-1) will travel to play Omaha (1-2) on August 3. Baltimore is tied with Atlanta for the division lead.

Capitals (See website for more details):
Nothing to report.

Wizards (See website for more details):
Nothing to report.

Mystics (See website for more details):
Mystics lost to Indiana to drop to 8-8, but are still in third place in the conference. The regular season runs through the middle of December.

D.C.United (See website for more details):
DC lost to Chicago 4-1 and are still, by far, the worst team in the league.

What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Actually, never mind. No one is reading this anyway so you probably won’t know the difference. Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!
