Iggy’s Baltimore Sports Report – October 1, 2013

Ravens:
Flacco 3 INTs and credit the WR’s with 2 more. 5 Giveaways. Do you really deserve to win when you do that? That aside, I was really ticked off at the game ending penalty on Suggs. If the QB is delaying to burn more seconds, and we are trying to end the play as quickly as possible and the Offensive line is blocking for the QB, then HE’S FAIR GAME!!! I’ve seen Peyton Manning fake a kneel down, and then pitch a TD pass. Stop babying the QB. That call was wrong, and I stand by it. We shouldn’t have even been in the game at that point, so we are fortunate to have lost by 3 to Buffalo… that’s right, Buffalo. This one could really haunt us.

Problems persist on the run blocking front (or lack thereof). Receivers are playing volleyball. Defense made a rookie QB look good. I guess there is some work to be done this week, against a Miami football club that is coming off a prime time embarrassment on Monday night. Ravens are 0-2 on the road this season. A lot of factors ain’t giving me the warm fuzzies about this game, so be loud down there, and let them know you have their backs. They are gonna need it!

The NFL is looking into expanding the post season to 14 teams, and reducing the preseason to 3 games. This means that only the #1 seed would get a bye, and opens up the potential of starting the season a week earlier, and include 2 bye weeks per team.

Orioles:
O’s look to rebuilding for next year, with many questions on the table. We no clear vision of how to improve our clutch hitting problem, a another big bat is needed for the lineup, as well as an anchoring starting pitcher. BRob’s return is up in the air, and his stability later in the season could buy him a lesser contract in the offseason, but the more likely scenario has him gone.

Alouettes
The Als (5-8, 3rd) 3rd quarter TD, pair with 2 4th quarter FGs provided the necessary point to edge out Saskatchewan (8-5) 17-12. Next up is a trip to Edmonton (3-10) on Saturday.

Blast:
2013-14 Schedule has been released. (Nothing new to report)

Chesapeake Bayhawks: (Home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium)
Nothing to report.

Charm:
Nothing to Report.

Capitals (See website for more details):
Regular Season starts on October 1.

Wizards (See website for more details):
Wizards to host Knicks in Baltimore on October 17 for a preseason game. Individual game tickets now on sale… Wizards Restructure front office (A sure sign of a franchise without direction).

Mystics (See website for more details):
Nothing to report.

D.C.United (See website for more details):
DC (3-21-6) lost to Toronto, and will visit Real Salt Lake tonight, and host Chicago on Friday.

What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Actually, never mind. No one is reading this anyway so you probably won’t know the difference. Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!

Iggy’s Predictions

“Past performance does not guarantee future success, but it sure is the way to bet!”

  • NFL Week 4:
    • Niners over Rams (+3.5). Niners need to start recovering their season after being humiliated by Colts at Home. Niners rolled.
    • Ravens over Bills (+3.5), but take the points. Blowout of Houston was on the scoreboard, not the stat book. 5 INTs.
    • Bengals over Browns (+5.5). Cincinnati could be real this year… But real what? Um… Who invited Cleveland?
    • Bears (+2.5) over Lions. Bears have more going on than the Lions. Lions roared louder.
    • Seattle over Houston (+2.5). Game is really a toss up, being in Houston. It took OT… Can Seattle play away from Home?
    • Indy over Jax (+8.5). Jags could give the Lions 0-16 a run for their money. Jax scores first 3, then goes home.
    • Chiefs over Giants (+4.5). Nobody gets blown out by Carolina. Nobody. Giants have no front line.
    • stealers over Vikings (+0.5) in London. Great international showcase! Two 0-3 teams! Yeah! Glad to be wrong!
    • Arizona (+2.5) over Tampa. Cards will keep Tampa winless. Down 10-0, Cards score 13 straight to get the win.
    • Tennessee over Jets (+3.5), but take the points. Tennessee should be better, but Jets are 2-0 as the Dog. Tennessee rolls Jets, but Locker out for a couple weeks.
    • Denver over Philly (+10.5). Come on… Only 10.5? Can’t even tease me a little with the points? Denver wins by 32.
    • Oakland (+3.5) over skins. West coming east, no problem. East going west… big problem. Oakland should have won, but got in their own way.
    • Chargers (+1.5) over Dallas. Cowboys are 2-1, but why? How? Late 10 point surge put a charge in.
    • Atlanta over NE (+1.5). Pats are looking vulnerable so far this year. Patriots put up some strong numbers, but they are weak this year.
    • Saints over Fins (+6.5), but take the points. Miami could even win this game, but better yet: they will be on a short week to prepare for the RAVENS!!! Fins embarrassed.
    • Last Week:: 9-6 Straight Up, and 8-7 Against the Spread
    • Season:: 35-28 Straight Up, and 31-32 Against the Spread
  • NFL Week 5:
    • Cleveland over Bills (+4.5), but take the points. Will be a close game.
    • Miami over Ravens (+3.5), but take the points. I *hope* this will be a close game!!!
    • Saints (+1.5) over Bears. After what the Saints did to the Fins, they favor the Bears, who got stomped by the Lions?
    • Pats (+1.5) over Cincy. Pats aren’t as good this year, but come on, Bengals lost to Cleveland.
    • Packers over Lions (+6.5), but take the points. Lions looking good this year, but not great.
    • Seattle over Indy (+2.5). More points could have enticed me.
    • Philly (+2.5) over Giants. Giants are terrible, you will see.
    • Rams over Jags (+11.5), but take the points. Usually, I’d bail on any points given to Jax, but against St. Louis, I’m taking the bait.
    • Chefs over Titans (+2.5). Locker is out.
    • Arizona (+2.5) over Carolina. This is in the Desert.
    • Denver over Dallas (+7.5). How long before someone stops Peyton? Not this week.
    • Niners over Houston (+6.5). Points were intriguing, but Houston has had 2 losses in a row, and now travels to SF, who are coming off 10 days rest.
    • Chargers over Raiders (+4.5). Oakland can’t even beat Washington…
    • Atlanta over Jets (+8.5). Atlanta looks to avenge last weeks prime time loss, and the Jets could be just what they need.
  • MLB
    • Cleveland over Rays, and then Boston over Cleveland. Cleveland is hottest team right now, but Boston is very tough this year.
    • Oakland over Tigers. Oakland has their money ball rolling again.
    • Reds over Pirates, and then Cards over Reds. Pirates edged Cincy in the final season series, but Reds will find what it takes. Cards are best of the NL. Period.
    • Dodgers over Atlanta. Dodgers took a while to heat up, but then clobbered the West. Atlanta has been inching along.
