Iggy’s Baltimore Sports Report – October 12, 2013

Ravens:
Winnings games you shouldn’t is a good sign. The Ravens had no right to be leading 17-0 at half time, and no right to win that game, alas, they did. Mike Preston (Baltimore Sun) said the game should have ended in a tie because no team deserved to win is pretty accurate. The Raven’s defense stumped Cincinnati, and the Raven’s offense stumped themselves (again). How much longer can we tolerate an incompetent running attack? Our 2 touchdown drives were the result of a 48 yard pass interference call, and short field turnover. In a must win scenario, this awkward win saved the season for now. The Bengals are only 1 game ahead of us in the standings, and with a rematch set up for the last game of the season, our future is still in our hands. One final note, the Ravens have the 3rd worst offense in the NFL right now as they continue to go in the wrong direction.

Orioles:
Chris Davis, JJ Hardy, and Adam Jones all won Silver Slugger awards, marking the first time a team has scored 3 in one season. The Silver Slugger is the parallel award to the Golden Glove, given to the best hitting player at each position. AL MVP award is scheduled to be announced this week (tonight?)… Orioles hire Dom Chiti as the new bullpen coach; Bill Castro declines offer to stay on, but might be back.

Alouettes
The Als led early in the fourth quarter, and but had to battle back to tie the game at the end of regulation on a field goal. Overtime also led to a field goal, but Hamilton punched it in for a 19-16 OT win. The Ti-Cats will travel to Toronto next weekend for the Eastern Division Title.

Blast:
The Blast open their season on Saturday in Rochester. First home game is November 23, against Milwaukee.

Chesapeake Bayhawks: (Home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium)
Supplemental Draft to take place on December 4. (Nothing new)

Charm:
Nothing to Report.

Capitals (See website for more details):
At 9-8-1, the Caps have risen to second place, 3 points behind the evil penguins.

Wizards (See website for more details):
The Wizards have started the season 0-3. I sure hope this gets better.

Mystics (See website for more details):
Nothing to report.

D.C.United (See website for more details):
Nothing to report.

What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Actually, never mind. No one is reading this anyway so you probably won’t know the difference. Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!

Iggy’s Predictions

“Past performance does not guarantee future success, but it sure is the way to bet!”

  • NFL Week 10:
    • Skins over Vikings (+2.5). As much as I want to believe in Peterson at home, skins are finding ways to win lately. Corrections, Skins are finding ways to lose.
    • Bengals over Ravens (+1.5). Smile, we’re still defending champs until February. Could this be the start of something?
    • Seattle over Atlanta (+6.5). Seattle has #2 Defense in the league. Seattle wins easily on the Road.
    • Bears (+2.5) over Detroit. Most things being equal, I took the home team! Detroit wins on failed 2 point conversion that could have tied the game.
    • Eagles (+2.5) over Pack. Line was 9.5 until Rodgers went out. I’ll go with the guy coming off a 7 TD performance. Packers are REALLY hurting at QB now.
    • Colts over Rams (+9.5), but take the points. Colts tend to win by less than a score at home, but Rams tend to lose big on road. Rams slaughter the Colts!
    • Giants over Raiders (+7.5). Giants are starting to come together after rough start. …Raider led early and held on to cover.
    • steelers over Bills (+3.5), but take the points. Don’t be surprised if Buffalo wins this game. They are better than their record indicates. Bills never had a chance.
    • Titans over Jags (+12.5). Jags still have worst Offense in NFL. Jags win first of year; Locker out for season.
    • Niners over Carolina (+6.5). SF is 6-1 as Favorite against the spread, while Carolina is 1-1 as the dog. Carolina shows they can travel now. Look Out!
    • Cards over Houston (+2.5). This could be an interesting game with Houston’s top D going against the 4th worst offense in the NFL. Cardinals due just enough to win.
    • Denver over San Diego (+7.5), but take the points. Chargers are 5-0 as the dog this season, while Denver has failed to cover the points twice so far. Chargers *almost* covered…
    • Saints over Dallas (+6.5), but take the points. Good match-up, but NFC East hold 3 of the worst defenses in the NFL, including Dallas. Saints destroyed Dallas.
    • Miami over Tampa (+2.5). Florida teams combine for a 4-20 record, which has absolutely nothing to do with this prediction! But no one is reading this anyway. Face it, you tuned out after the Ravens prediction (if you made it that far at all!) Tampa ends bid for opposite of perfect season with a win.
    • Last Week:: 7-7 Straight Up, and 5-9 Against the Spread
    • Season:: 89-58 Straight Up, and 65-82 Against the Spread
  • NFL Week 11:
    • Indy over Tennessee (+2.5). Locker out for the season.
    • Baltimore (+2.5) over Bears. Baltimore is 4-2 as the underdog, and the Bears are 1-4 (failing to cover 3 times) as the favorite.
    • Jets (+1.5) over Bills. Jets seem to find ways to win games.
    • Bengals over Browns (+5.5), but take the points. Heck, after playing them back to back, you might even want to take the Browns to win!
    • Houston over Oakland (+6.5), but take the points. Houston is 0-4 as the favorite this season.
    • Zona over Jax (+6.5), but take the points. Jacksonville has been playing good lately, but will they let up after getting that first win?
    • Eagles over Skins (+3.5). Both teams rate in the bottom 6 worst defenses in the NFL.
    • steelers (+2.5) over Lions. Very difficult to get a win in pittsburgh.
    • Tampa (+1.5) over Atlanta. Why wasn’t this moved to the Sunday Night game?
    • Miami (+1.5) over San Diego. Despite the bad press, Fins are the better team.
    • Saints over Niners (+2.5). Niners couldn’t score on Carolina, and sure won’t win a shoot out in New Orleans.
    • Seattle over Minnesota (+13.5), but take the points. Not even Seattle can shut down AP.
    • Giants over Packers (+6.5), but take the points. Even without a legit QB, GB will find a way to keep it close. Giants aren’t that big right now.
    • Denver over KC (+8.5), but take the points. When is the last time a team was 9-0 and got 7+ points?
    • Carolina over Pats (+2.5). Carolina’s 2nd rated defense will make Brady cry, but then again, a lot of things make Brady cry.
