Iggy’s Baltimore Sports Report – May 20, 2014

Ravens:
Ray Rice avoids trial by agreeing to complete a diversionary program, but will still probably face suspension by the league… Ravens sign another Houston TE Phillip Supernaw, FB/RB Shaun Chapas, and OG Will Rackley. To make room, they cut TE Matt Furstenburg (Maryland), LB D.J. Bryant (Randallstown) and OL/DL Cody Larsen.

Orioles:
O’s can get Hitting and Pitching to align very often, but are still at the top (in the loss column) of the AL East… O’s decision to NOT sign closer Grant Balfour has turned positive, as he sports an 0-1 record with a 6+ ERA, although O’s are still battling through their own closer issues as Hunter has lost the job.

Alouettes
Al’s first round draft pick has defected to the NFL Panthers… The Montreal Alouettes signed quarterback Collin Klein, linebacker Gary Guyton and defensive back Chris Smith to two-year deals Friday.

Mariners
Mariner’s (4-1) fall for the first time 57-47 to Fayetteville’s Cape Fear Hero’s. Next game is at Home on Saturday against Atlanta.

Blast:
The top professional indoor soccer teams from across the United States and Mexico have come together to create a new super league. These teams which had previously played in the MISL (Major Indoor Soccer League) and PASL (Professional Arena Soccer League) have combined to form the Major Arena Soccer League. The league currently has 24 teams with the possibility of adding more teams prior to the June 1, 2014 deadline established by the league to play in the 2014/2015 season.

Chesapeake Bayhawks: (Home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium)
The Bayhawks (1-3) dropped another game, this time to the Florida Launch. 15-12. Next game is home on May 31 against Ohio.

Charm:
Charm (0-1) lost season opener to the Jacksonville Breeze 27-12. Next game is June 21 at Toledo.

Capitals (See website for more details):
Nothing to report.

Wizards (See website for more details):
Wizards drop the series to the Pacers.

Mystics (See website for more details):
Mystics drop season opener to Minnesota, 89-77. Next game is Friday at Indiana.

D.C.United (See website for more details):
United (4-3-3) tied Montreal, and now sit in 4th place. The Host Houston tomorrow, and travel to New England on Saturday… United has also come to an agreement for a $600M 20,000 seat soccer stadium at Buzzards Point in DC.

What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Actually, never mind. No one is reading this anyway so you probably won’t know the difference. Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!
