Iggy’s Baltimore Sports Report – August 2, 2014

Ravens:
Well, the Ray Rice penalty saga has finally come to a close, or has it. There has been severe backlash from many non-Baltimore outlets claiming that the penalty was too light. Many fans have said that it would have been better to hit him with 4 games, and then cut it back to 2 after an appeal. Personally, this is about what I expected, but I think the Ravens should have preemptively suspended Rice 2 games, and challenge the league to pile on. The nfl would look more favorably upon the situation if it thought the team was on top of the discipline, but the team is also dealing with 4 other incidences as well, which are all drawing attention away from the real topic: Training Camp, which is now in the thick of it with the first preseason game next Thursday at home against the San Francisco 49ers.

Orioles:
The Orioles have worked themselves into first place, and have a 4 games (in the loss column) lead over Toronto. With the trading deadline come and gone, the Orioles decided to not mortgage the future for a top line starter, but instead sured up the bullpen with Red Sox Ace middle relieve Andrew Miller. In a season shaping up similar to 2012, the Orioles still struggle driving in runs with use of the long ball, but are pitching themselves into an ideal position, now posting the 3rd best record in baseball, and 2nd seed in the AL. Incidentally, the Orioles just took 4 of 6 over the last 2 weeks from the Angels who have the 2nd best record in the MLB.

Alouettes
At a pathetic 1-4 record, the Als are still only half a game out of first in a highly polar CFL where everyone in the Western division has a .500 or better records, and everyone in the East is sub-.500. Montreal lost to Toronto 31-5 last night, and will host Edmonton (4-1) next weekend.

Mariners
Nothing to report as the 2015 season remains in question will the battle with the Baltimore Arena remains an issue.

Blast:
Blast will host Syracuse November 8 to open the season.

Chesapeake Bayhawks: (Home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium)
Season ends for them on Friday, although it has long been done.

Charm:
Last regular season game is August 9 in Omaha (1-2). They are still in 3rd place of 5 teams.

Capitals (See website for more details):
Nothing to report.

Wizards (See website for more details):
Nothing to report.

Mystics (See website for more details):
Mystics (13-14) had their 4 game win streak snapped on Tuesday, but are tied for 2nd in their conference with 7 games left.

D.C.United (See website for more details):
United (11-5-4) have now won 4 in a row, but find themselves 2 points behind KC who has played 2 more games than DC. The regular season runs through the ends of October.

What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Actually, never mind. No one is reading this anyway so you probably won’t know the difference. Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!
