Iggy’s Baltimore Sports Report – September 23, 2014

Ravens:
Either Cleveland has gotten better, or we are in for a long season. Ravens escaped Cleveland, thanks to Billy Cundiff’s bounce off the upright, blocked kick, and then Justin Tucker’s Game winner. Defense seemed to allow the Browns to march up and down the field at will, except on their final drive when we knew they were just going to run the ball to chew up clock. Going forward, the Ravens need to pick it up on D, and find more consistency on Offense. Steve Smith looks to have another good game, as he looks to exact revenge on his old time.

Orioles:
Although the Orioles could claim number one seed, and best record in the AL, they seem to be content nursing their 2 seed, and protecting the health of their starters with plenty of days off and a non-urgent approve to the games. Hopefully they can pick it back up when the playoffs start next Thursday, likely against Detroit based on current trends.

Alouettes
The Montreal Alouettes will retire Anthony Calvillo’s number 13 prior to their Oct. 13 game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The Thanksgiving Day ceremony will honour the quarterback who retired after last season with the most passing yards, touchdown passes, completions, and pass attempts in league history… The Als (4-8) upset Calgary (10-2, best record in CFL) 31-15 and sit half a game behind Hamilton for East Division lead. Montreal travels to Ottawa (1-10) Friday night.

Iggy’s Predictions

“Past performance does not guarantee future success, but it sure is the way to bet!”

  • Week 1:
    • Atlanta over Tampa (+6.5). Falcons own this. and boy did they!
    • Browns (+1.5) over Ravens. Browns beat the Saints. I am concerned. Cundiff gives Browns the Boot… or was it Tucker 🙂
    • Chargers (+2.5) over Buffalo. Still not drinking the Buffalo Kool Aid. Neither were the Chargers!
    • Dallas over Rams (+1.5). Dallas to continue their win streak against week opponents. Rams gave it the old College try, but still managed to blow a big early lead.
    • Philly over Was (+6.5), but take the points. With Cousins behind center, Washington has a good chance here. Cousins is showing he should be number 1 in washington
    • Houston over Giants (+2.5). Yes, the Giants could be that bad this year. Houston missed the plane, scab team filled in.
    • Saints over Vikings (+9.5), but take the points. Saints lost to the Browns. Minnesota did just enough to NOT cover.
    • Cincinnati over Tennessee (+6.5). Bengals could be for real. Bengals clubbed Titans like they were midgets.
    • Packers (+1.5) over Detroit. This one could really go either way.Packers sent packing.
    • Indy over Jax (+6.5). 0-2 Indy won’t be 0-3. Jax only scored because Indy let them.
    • Pats over Oakland (+14.5), but take the points. Those are way too many points to pass on. Oakland kept it close, but how will they handle flying to London this week?
    • Zona (+2.5) over SF. Strange things happen in that desert, and SF already choked on the bears. Desert does funny things again.
    • Denver (+4.5) over Seattle. Seattle will try to rebound, but can they? Denver ALMOST covered.
    • Miami over KC (+4.5), but take the points. KC showed some real promise against Denver last week. Chiefs showed Fins who’s in command.
    • steelers (+3.5) over Carolina. steelers can’t be as bad as they looked against us, can they? One can hope! steelers started slow, but then put on after-burners in the 2nd half.
    • Bears (+2.5) over Jets. Jets aren’t as good as their 1-1 record. Bears controlled this game.
    • This Week: 11-5 Straight Up and 11-5 Against the Spread
    • Season: 23-25 Straight Up and 21-27 Against the Spread
  • Week 2:
    • Skins over Giants (+3.5), but take the points. These division match-ups tend to be close.
    • Ravens over Panthers (+3.5), but take the points. Expecting another closely scored game.
    • Fins over Raiders (+3.5). Raiders get most jet-legged, playing halfway around the world.
    • Bears (+1.5) over Packers. Packers really stunk last week.
    • Indy over Titans (+7.5), but take the points. Tennessee is better competition than Jacksonville.
    • steelers over Tampa (+7.5). steelers may have found their groove.
    • Detroit over Jets (+1.5). Jets record is better than they are.
    • Houston over Buffalo (+2.5). Buffalo’s record is deceiving too.
    • Chargers over Jax (+13.5). Points were tempting, but Jags haven’t come that close to anyone yet.
    • SF over Philly (+5.5), but take the points. Eagles can match points with the Niners.
    • Falcons over Minnesota (+2.5). Mismatch.
    • Saints over Dallas (+2.5). 2 teams looking for identities.
    • Pats over KC (+3.5), but take the points. Records against the spread favors KC.
