Iggy’s Baltimore Sports Report – September 30, 2014

Ravens:
Ravens continued to put up points on Sunday, but seemed to have problems stopping a depleted Panther team, especially on Third down where Carolina was 10 for 15. Special teams is virtually irrelevant these days with kick offs out of the end zone and fair catches. Offense did the most important thing: They didn’t turn the ball over. However, the Ravens will need to play a much better game this week against a Indianapolis team that easily puts up points.

Orioles:
O’s coasted to the end of the season after clinching last week against Toronto. Closing out the season with a 1-0 win, they should be able to turn on the jets against Detroit, if we can break the mastery they have over us. Let’s go O’s!

Alouettes
The Montreal Alouettes (5-8) defeated the league’s worst Ottawa (1-11) 15-7, and sit half game behind Hamilton. The Al’s are off this week. Next Game in Monday, October 13 against Saskatchewan (9-4).

Mariners
Nothing to report as the 2015 season remains in question will the battle with the Baltimore Arena remains an issue.

Blast:
Blast will be celebrating 35 years of consecutive operation this year. Full schedule now available at Baltimoreblast.com.

Chesapeake Bayhawks: (Home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium)
Shooting and Dodging Clinic to be held October 12.

Charm:
Nothing to Report.

Capitals (See website for more details):
Season opens October 9.

Wizards (See website for more details):
Preseason starts November 6.

Mystics (See website for more details):
Nothing to report.

D.C.United (See website for more details):
United (15-9-6) defeated Philadelphia (9-10-11) 1-0, and sit 6 points ahead of New England (14-13-3) and KC (13-11-6).
United hosts KC on Friday.

What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Actually, never mind. No one is reading this anyway so you probably won’t know the difference. Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!

Iggy’s Predictions

“Past performance does not guarantee future success, but it sure is the way to bet!”

  • Week 4:
    • Skins over Giants (+3.5), but take the points. These division match-ups tend to be close. Well, that was unexpected.
    • Ravens over Panthers (+3.5), but take the points. Expecting another closely scored game. Ravens piled on.
    • Fins over Raiders (+3.5). Raiders get most jet-legged, playing halfway around the world. Raiders weren’t raiding anything
    • Bears (+1.5) over Packers. Packers really stunk last week. Packers finally showed up for a game.
    • Indy over Titans (+7.5), but take the points. Tennessee is better competition than Jacksonville. Indy is in blasting mode.
    • steelers over Tampa (+7.5). steelers may have found their groove. Sometimes, I like being wrong!
    • Detroit over Jets (+1.5). Jets record is better than they are. Detroit proved it.
    • Houston over Buffalo (+2.5). Buffalo’s record is deceiving too. Buffalo did themselves in. They are actually decent this year.
    • Chargers over Jax (+13.5). Points were tempting, but Jags haven’t come that close to anyone yet. …and still haven’t
    • SF over Philly (+5.5), but take the points. Eagles can match points with the Niners. Right on.
    • Falcons over Minnesota (+2.5). Mismatch. It was a mismatch, but not the way I thought
    • Saints over Dallas (+2.5). 2 teams looking for identities. I should have known better. Anyone who loses to Cleveland must really stink.
    • Pats over KC (+3.5), but take the points. Records against the spread favors KC. KC did to NE, what NE usually does to everyone else. Embarrassed them.
    • This Week: 7-6 Straight Up and 7-6 Against the Spread
    • Season: 30-31 Straight Up and 28-33 Against the Spread
  • Week 5:
    • Packers over Vikings (+9.5), but take the points. Too many points to a team that ran up the score last week.
    • Indy over Baltimore (+3.5), but take the points. Wishful thinking here. I don’t like the match-up of Luck versus our secondary.
    • Bears (+2.5) over Panthers. Carolina is depleted.
    • Cleveland (+1.5) over Tennessee. Browns might actually be a threat.
    • Eagles over StL (+7.5). Eagle will get back on the winning track in this game.
    • Giants over Atlanta (+4.5). Giants looked big last week, and the Falcons looked feeble.
    • steelers over Jax (+6.5). Jags have yet to cover a spread.
    • Saints over Tampa (+10.5). Saints look dreadful lately, and the Bucs are coming off a win.
    • Dallas over Houston (+5.5), but take the points. Battle of Texas should be a close one.
    • Detroit over Buffalo (+7.5), but take the points. Despite starting Orton, Bills D will keep them in this one.
    • Denver over Arizona (+7.5), but take the points. Denver yet to cover as the favorite, and Cards have yet to lose as the dog.
    • SF over KC (+6.5) but take the points. SF isn’t as great as they once were with all the locker room controversy.
    • Chargers over Jets (+6.5). Jets go to west coast twi-light zone.
    • Bengals over Pats (+1.5). Cincinnati is for real.
    • Seattle over Washington (+7.5), but take the points. Skins need to bounce back from last Thursday.
