Iggy’s Baltimore Sports Report – November 11, 2014

Ravens:
Ravens did what they had to do, and what they have done all season. Eliminated an inferior opponent. It wasn’t easy. In fact, it was downright scary in the first quarter, but the Ravens buckled down and took care of business. They won’t be as lucky against the Saint’s in two week, when Brees will surgically disassemble our makeshift defense. The Ravens are 6-1 as the favorite this year, which means that the odds makers are usually right about who is going to win when it comes to the Ravens. We need to start finding ways of winning the games we shouldn’t if we wish to rise about the rest in the mediocre North division, where all the teams sit half a game apart.

Orioles:
Showalter wins AL Manager of the year. An award that he should have won 2 years ago when we first made the playoffs, but probably shouldn’t have this year, while I was expecting KC’s Ned Yost to take the honor. Nelson Cruz declined his qualifying 1 year offer (as expected), meaning that if anyone else signs him, we get our first round draft pick back that we gave up to sign him last year. Nick Markakis’ return is looking less and less likely with each passing day after the Orioles declined to pick up his 2015 option.

Alouettes
The Montreal Alouettes (9-9) lost 29-15 to Hamilton, which also conceded the division title. Montreal will host cross-over BC (9-9 and 4th place team from the West Division) on Sunday.

Mariners
Nothing to report as the 2015 season remains in question as the battle with the Baltimore Arena remains an issue.

Blast:
The Blast defeat the Syracuse Silver Knights 16-7, to open the season. Next game is Friday night against the Detroit Waza Flo.

Chesapeake Bayhawks: (Home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium)
Offensive skills clinic to be held in Gambrills on November 29, from 11:30 to 1:30.

Charm:
Nothing to Report.

Capitals (See website for more details):
Caps have improved to 6-5-3 (15 Points) but remain 5 points behind the evil penguins.

Wizards (See website for more details):
Wizards (5-2) are now tied with Miami for the division lead.

Mystics (See website for more details):
Nothing to report.

D.C.United (See website for more details):
DC wins 2-1, but loses game game aggregate 3-2. Season done.

What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Actually, never mind. No one is reading this anyway so you probably won’t know the difference. Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!

Iggy’s Predictions

“Past performance does not guarantee future success, but it sure is the way to bet!”

  • Week 10:
    • Bengals over Browns (+6.5) but take the points. Browns are 3-1 as the underdogs. Browns just made the division a lot more interesting.
    • Baltimore over Tennessee (+9.5). Ravens need this to get back into it, and are 5-1 as the favorite. Ravens Win, stay in the division race.
    • Dallas over London Jags (+6.5), but take the points. Jags have covered 3 of last 4 games. Dallas wins overseas.
    • Bills (+1.5) over Chiefs. This one is in Buffalo. Chefs score late FTW.
    • Fins (+2.5) over Detroit. Miami is 3-0 as the dog this season. Detroit scores late too, FTW.
    • Niners (+4.5) over Saints. This match-up is has too many elements. Saints fumble it away in OT.
    • *them* over the Jets (+4.5). 12 TD’s in 2 weeks, and they only favor *them* by 4+ points? J-E-T-S, JETS JETS JETS!
    • Tampa (+1.5) over Atlanta. Tampa is poised for another win, and this could be the right game for it.Nope. Atlanta says in lame division race.
    • Denver over Raiders (+11.5), but take the points. Black hole game for Denver. Broncos turned on afterburners in 2nd half.
    • Zona over Rams (+7.5). Cards have won 3 straight as the favorite, while Rams alternate wins and losses ATS. This is the loss week. Arizona wins, loses Palmer.
    • Seattle over Giants (+9.5), but take the points. Hawks ain’t putting people away as they have a 3-5 record ATS as the favorite and lost 4 straight after factoring in the odds. Seattle runs away in the 2nd half.
    • Packers over Bears (+7.5). In Green Bay on Sunday night will carry the momentum. No Contest.
    • Eagles over Carolina (+6.5), but take the points. Originally, I took Eagles straight up, but after reflecting on Sanchez as the starter, I had to at least go with the points. Eagles D and ST controlled the game.
    • This Week: 8-5 Straight Up and 5-8 Against the Spread
    • Season: 88-58-1 Straight Up and 65-82 Against the Spread
  • Week 11:
    • Fins over Bills (+5.5). Points were tempting, but no Thursday game this year has been changed by the Points.
    • Carolina over Atlanta (+2.5). Despite the virtually identical records, Carolina is the better team.
    • Minnesota (+3.5) over Chicago. Two teams going no where. fast.
    • Cleveland over Houston (+3.5). Cleveland is in first, but how long can they hold it?
    • Seattle (+1.5) over KC. Odds makers must know something I don’t.
    • Saints over Bungles (+6.5), but take the points. Saints haven’t been very good as the favorite so far and a lot depends on if Dalton comes ready to play.
    • SF over Midgets (+4.5). Despite their turmoil off the fields, Niners are trying to move up in the standings, while Giants are trying to NOT move down.
    • Denver over Saint Louis (+9.5). Rams used all their bag of tricks against Seattle a few weeks ago.
    • Skins over Tampa (+6.5), but take the points. If skins win, it won’t be by much.
    • Chargers over Oakland (+9.5). I would have take the points if game was in Oakland.
    • Cards over Detroit (+1.5). Palmer out hurts, but there is more to Zona than just Palmer.
    • Packers over Iggles (+6.5), but take the points. This could have been the Sunday night game if it weren’t for the game already scheduled, which is as good a match up!
    • Patsies (+2.5) over Colts. Despite have Luck on their side, Brady seems to find his A-game against top tier opponents.
    • TTMNBN over Titans (+5.5). pittsburgh beat us by 20, and we beat Tennessee by 14… just doesn’t add up for the Titans.
