Iggy’s Baltimore Sports Report – December 16, 2014

Ravens:
Disaster averted. The Ravens are now in the drivers seat of their destiny. 2 wins and they make the playoffs, probably in at least the number 5 seed. With a little bit of luck, we could be looking at a 4 seed. First things first though, we need to squirm through a tough Houston defense. Worse yet, Houston is being forced to start their backup QB, and the Raven’s history with backup and new QBs is less than stellar. We need to step up the game or be left in the dust.

Orioles:
Orioles are leading contenders for 2016 All-Star game.

Alouettes
Anthony Calvillo is back with the Montreal Alouettes. The CFL club named Calvillo, pro football’s all-time passing leader, as an offensive coach. Alouettes head coach Tom Higgins said Calvillo’s duties will be clarified once an offensive co-ordinator is hired.

Mariners
Nothing to report as the 2015 season remains in question as the battle with the Baltimore Arena remains an issue.

Blast:
The Blast (6-0) sweep a 2 game home series from arch-enemy Milwaukee. They head to Syracuse to start a 3 game road trip on Friday.

Chesapeake Bayhawks: (Home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium)
Bayhawks to offer upgraded club seating for 2015.

Charm:
Nothing to Report.

Capitals (See website for more details):
Caps continued to drift in the standings at 14-10-5 (33 Points), have moved to within 9 points of the evil penguins.

Wizards (See website for more details):
Wizards improved to 17-6 and moved 1 game ahead of Atlanta for the division lead, and half a game of Toronto for top spot in the Eastern Conference.

Mystics (See website for more details):
Nothing to report.

D.C.United (See website for more details):
Nothing to report.

What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Actually, never mind. No one is reading this anyway so you probably won’t know the difference. Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!

Iggy’s Predictions

“Past performance does not guarantee future success, but it sure is the way to bet!”

  • Week 15:
    • Rams over Cards (+4.5). Cards are not in Arizona’s favor after losing Palmer. Arizona limps through on 4 FGs
    • Ravens over Jags (+13.5). Points may be tempting given this ex-rivalry, but Ravens tend to blow out bad teams, and Jags tend to get blown out. Should have heeded to the close ex-division rivalry with their tradition of tight games.
    • Atlanta (+2.5) over squealors. So far this season, stealers lose to bad teams and are 3-5 as the favorite, while Atlanta, also fighting for division lead, is 5-3 as the underdog. Squealers win just to make our life more difficult.
    • Packers over Bills (+5.5). Green Bay could be rolling towards a title. Bills pull upset.
    • Carolina over Tampa (+5.5). Panthers won previous meeting on the road. Tampa scores enough to cover.
    • Cleveland (+.5) over Cincinnati. Browns won first match-up, and are 6-2 as the underdog, compared to Bengals 3-6 as the favorite. Johnny Football is not.
    • Indy over Houston (+6.5). Although Houston is making a run for the playoffs, injuries are slowing them down. Indy slow starts again, while Houston drops their starting QB on the IR.
    • KC over Oakland (+10.5), but take the points. Raiders won first meeting and have covered the spread 4 teams so far this season. Oakland looked to cover, but then collapsed… badly
    • Pats over Fins (+7.5), but take the points. Miami won the first meeting, and are 4-1 as the underdog. Fins hung with them for a while, and then lost their edge.
    • Giants over Potatoes (+6.5). Yeah, the skins are that bad. Roasted Potatoes.
    • Denver over San Diego (+3.5), but take the points. Despite Denver’s 2 TD win in Denver earlier, they have failed to cover the spread 4 times this season. Denver wins, but something is wrong with that team.
    • Jets over Titans (+1.5). Titans have been blown out the last 3 games. Jets score late for the win.
    • Lions over Vikings (+7.5). Detroit tends to win the games they are supposed to, and their record versus the spread is also in their favor (7-3) Viking kept it interesting, and cover the spread.
    • Seattle over SF (+9.5). Hawks won by 16 in SF a few weeks ago, and this game is in Seattle. Harb job was safe as long as we was going to the NFC Title game for last 3 years. Not now.
    • Philly over Dallas (+3.5). In a game that could determine the division title, expect Romo to choke again. Guess the stakes weren’t too high. Boy’s came through.
    • Saints over Bears (+2.5). For no other reason, Saints need this win more. Saint looked to run away for a while before the Bears actually scored… late.
    • This Week: 11-5 Straight Up and 5-11 Against the Spread
    • Season: 137-86-1 Straight Up and 97-127 Against the Spread
  • Week 16:
    • Jags over Titans (+3.5). 4 wins between them. How can Thursday Night Football ratings go any lower? They figured that out!
    • Eagles over Potatoes (+8.5). Philly needs to regain ground lost to Dallas last week.
    • Chargers (+2.5) over SF. SF has given up.
    • Ravens over Houston (+4.5). Should be a close game, and taking the points might not be a bad idea.
    • Browns (+3.5) over Carolina. Johnny Football to rebound in game 2.
    • Lions over Bears (+4.5). Lions have visions of a division title.
    • Fins over Vikings (+6.5), but take the points. Minnesota has covered 3 times, and Fins are on the edge of imploding.
    • Saints over Falcons (+6.5), but take the points. Division title could be on the line.
    • Pats over Jets (+10.5). Pats have clinched but need to stay ahead of Denver for #1 Seed.
    • Squealors over Chefs (+3.5), but take the points. KC tries to hold on to what little hope they have left.
    • Packers over Tampa (+10.5), but take the points. Packers have failed to cover 4 times, and the Bucs have overturned 4 games on points.
    • Rams over Giants (+5.5). Giants are in shambles.
    • Indy (+2.5) over Boys. Dallas set for big let down after big win.
    • Bills over Raiders (+5.5), but take the points. In Buffalo, this would be a blow out, but in Oakland, a different story.
    • Seattle over Arizona (+7.5). Seattle won by 16 in Seattle, and that is when Arizona still had Palmer. Without Palmer, they have no chance.
    • Denver over Cincy (+3.5), but take the points. Denver has problems covering the spread this year, overturned 4 times.
