Iggy’s Baltimore Sports Report – December 30, 2014

Ravens:
Rebounding from another near catastrophic start, the Ravens started playing football in the 4th quarter when it became apparent that San Diego’s string of luck had run out, and they had a realistic chance at making the playoffs. If the Ravens could play with that same sense of urgency for an entire game, I’d love to see the results. Instead, we travel to Pittsburgh for a first round playoff game, against a team that has never lost against a division rival in the playoffs, and also posted some ungodly numbers when they shredded our make shift secondary back in November. The Ravens have not improved since then, and anyone who expects different results will have another thing coming. Be glad that we made the playoffs, but you may want to close your eyes for what comes next.

Orioles:
Due to the ongoing legal dispute over MASN revenue sharing with the carpet-baggers, Baltimore is being dropped as a viable candidate for the 2016 all-star game. Washington screws us over yet again.

Alouettes
Nothing to report.

Mariners
Further research indicates that the team may be defunct or without a league. The Maryland Eagles, based in Laurel, is now a member of the league with a 4 game road schedule set for next season.

Blast:
The Blast (8-0) defeated Rochester 18-8 on Saturday. Next game is Saturday at Harrisburg, to wrap up a 3 game road trip.

Chesapeake Bayhawks: (Home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium)
2015 schedule has been announced. Hawks open at home April 19th against Florida.

Charm:
Nothing to Report.

Capitals (See website for more details):
Caps (18-11-7, 43 Points) pulled within 6 points of the evil penguins, thanks to a 3-0 victory over them during this past week.

Wizards (See website for more details):
Wizards (22-8) have moved back into a tie with Atlanta for the division lead, and 2nd best record in the conference.

Mystics (See website for more details):
Nothing to report.

D.C.United (See website for more details):
Nothing to report.

What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Actually, never mind. No one is reading this anyway so you probably won’t know the difference. Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!

Iggy’s Predictions

“Past performance does not guarantee future success, but it sure is the way to bet!”

  • Week 17:
    • Baltimore over Cleveland (+8.5), but take the points. I want to believe we can win this game, but don’t expect it to be by much. Ravens wake up, win, cover.
    • Houston over Jags (+9.5). Houston’s D will carry them. Houston wins, but still misses playoffs
    • KC over Chargers (+2.5). Doesn’t matter what I think. This is about what we need! Chefs bring it, keep division rival out of playoffs.
    • Miami over Jets (+5.5), but take the points. Despite records, Jets have played tough this year. Miami wins right to host Ravens again next year.
    • Minnesota over da Bears (+6.5). Vikings undefeated (3-0) when favored. Wins, but not covers.
    • Pats over Bills (+3.5). With Denver’s loss on Monday night, Pats clinch Home Field. Nothing to play for. Pats take an extra week off.
    • Eagles (+2.5) over Giants. Both teams out, but Eagles are the better team. Eagles win 10, miss playoffs.
    • Saints over Tampa (+3.5), but take the points. Another meaningless game. Toss a coin. Tampa blows big late lead to claim #1 pick.
    • Indy over Tennessee (+3.5). Indy needs to prove they belong in the playoffs after last week’s drubbing. Indy stays loose for playoffs.
    • Dallas over Skins (+6.5). Boys have a first round bye on the line, although they may need some help for that. Skins misery is over, for this year anyway.
    • Atlanta over Carolina (+3.5). Atlanta is the better team. Panthers claim division title in impressive format, to host struggling Cards.
    • Green Bay over Detroit (+7.5). Would you really go against Aaron Rodgers at home with the division title on the line? Green Bay clinches division title.
    • Seattle over Rams (+12.5) but take the points. Rams have been tough lately, despite being out of it for a while. Seattle scores late to cover spread.
    • Denver over Oakland (+14.5), but take the points. Denver needs a win to keep first round bye. Denver got medieval on them.
    • San Fran over Arizona (+5.5), but take the points. Arizona is still nothing without Palmer. SF wins, fires coach.
    • Squealers over Bungles (+3.5). They beat them once this season, and they will do it again. Now we have to play that evil team.
    • This Week: 13-3 Straight Up and 9-7 Against the Spread
    • Season: 158-97-1 Straight Up and 114-142 Against the Spread
  • Wild Card Round:
    • Panthers over Cards (+4.5). That’s right. 7-8-1 team over 11-5. Cards are nothing without Palmer.
    • squealors over RAVENS (+3.5). Our secondary is still tertiary.
    • Indy over Cincy (+4.5). Colts walloped them 27-0 earlier this season. This could be similar.
    • Boys over Lions (+7.5). The Points tempted me, but Detroit is 0-4 as the under…er…Lion this year.
