Iggy’s Baltimore Sports Report – September 7, 2015

News and Personal Thoughts:
The GoogleDoc set up for ticket sharing has gotten some traffic. 4 posts for “tickets Wanted,” but I haven’t seen anyone posting for “Tickets for Sale” yet. In case you are selling, there are requests for Cleveland, San Diego and Kansas City home games. Check it out at Ravens Roost 4 Ticket Exchange.

Ravens:
Can’t tell much when 90% of the starters don’t even suit up, so I will stick with my original concern regarding the defensive penetration and soft secondary. On other notes, Sports Illustrated predicted the Ravens to win the Super Bowl, and also ran another article on OG John Urschel, who is making waves as a mathematician on the side. The Baltimore Sun, and USA Today have run pared down versions of the story.

This weeks match-up should prove to be very challenging for the Ravens. I think we can put up points offensively, but I am not sure how well we can do in slowing down the Bronco offense. With 5 of the first 7 games on the road, the Ravens need to establish a strong road presence early in the season in order to make them relevant later on.

Orioles:
Toast. On July 1st, we were in first place, but the wheels have literally fallen off the cart as our pitching can’t hold anything together.

Alouettes
The Al’s (4-6) lost the BC, and have fallen 3 games behind Hamilton.

Blast (MASL):
Nothing to report.

Chesapeake Bayhawks: (Home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium)
Nothing to report.

Charm:
Nothing to report.

Capitals (See website for more details):
The Capitals are hosting a Casino Night on Saturday, November 14 at the Sheraton Pentagon City Hotel. Tickets are available starting at 10 AM on Wednesday for past attendees, season ticket holders, suite holders and Club Scarlet members. The pre-sale will last until next Monday at 10 AM, after which tickets will be available to the general public beginning Tuesday, September 15 at 10 AM. The event benefits Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation and features gaming with Capitals players, a raffle, a silent auction and a live auction.

Wizards (See website for more details):
Nothing to report.

Mystics (See website for more details):
Mystics (16-15) have dropped to 4th place, but with 3 games left, can only miss the playoffs by losing all 3 games and Atlanta winning all 3 games. Even so, they will be limping into the playoffs.

D.C.United (See website for more details):
DC (13-10-5, 44 points) are still in first place, but now only 2 points ahead of New York.

What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Actually, never mind. No one is reading this anyway so you probably won’t know the difference. Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!

Iggy’s Predictions

“Past performance does not guarantee future success, but it sure is the way to bet!”

  • NFL, Week 1
    • Pats over pittsburgh (+6.5). If anyone doesn’t think that Tom Brady won’t get Medieval on everyone this year to protest his deflated balls, you are sorely mistaken.
    • Packers over Bears (+6.5). Despite injuries, Pack should cover against a rebuilding Bears team.
    • Houston over KC (+1.5). Teams are well matched, so I went with the home team.
    • Browns (+2.5) over Jets. It’s still the Jets. Browns will enjoy their only taste of first place all year.
    • Indy over Buff (+2.5). Buffalo is looking much better, but Colts have the edge with Luck.
    • Fins over Was (+3.5). Skins glory stays with their preseason win over the Ravens.
    • Car over Jax (+3.5), but take the points. 2 teams going no where. Carolina is better, but not by much.
    • Seattle over Rams (+3.5). Rams will need more than a FG spread to tempt me.
    • Cards over Saints (+2.5). Desert Air.
    • Chargers over Detroit (+2.5). Strange things happen to visiting teams in San Diego.
    • Titans (+3.5) over Tampa. 2 struggling teams look to get an edge on the new season.
    • Bengals over Raiders (+3.5), but take the points. Black hole.
    • Broncos over Ravens (+4.5). Waiting for our Defense to prove me wrong. Begging, actually.
    • Dallas over Giants (+5.5), but take the points. For some strange reason, Road teams in NFC East matchups do very well.
    • Falcons (+2.5) over Eagles. Upset of the week.
    • SF over Vikings (+2.5). San Fran is in turmoil, but have the late night home field advantage this week.
