Iggy’s Baltimore Sports Report – September 16, 2014

Ravens:
I’m done hearing about Rice. He’s dead to me. Time to move on. And moving on is what the Ravens did against the self destructing Steelers, who were more interested in head hunting than in winning the game. The Ravens earned a solid win, and that’s what they needed to avoid starting 0-2, and moving into 2nd place in the division. Next week is a surprisingly tough Cleveland team, who always brings their A-game against us for some mystical Irsaynine Tagliapupu reason. (Yeah, it’s their fault we had to steal Cleveland’s football team.)

Orioles:
Since the Raven’s couldn’t have all the bad press, Chris Davis got 25 games suspended due to his use of Adderall, a common ADHD drug that is also prescribed for narcolepsy. Essentially, in the ADHD brain, it slows the brain down to operate at a more normal speed, and allows aids in sleep. However, in the non-ADHD brain, it works like speed, increasing reflexes. This is Davis’ second offense, and comes with a 25 game suspension, not the more extreme punishment for Human Growth Hormone (HGH). Davis has ADHD, but has been apparently using it for the last 2 years without a league issued exemption. Davis will be unavailable 8 games into the postseason, and will be at the teams descretion as to whether or not they add him to the 25 man roster, that is set at the beginning of each series.

The Orioles journey into the postseason is inevitable right now, so cheer on the O’s! They are wrapping up the division clinching game as I type!

Alouettes
The Als lost to Edmonton to fall to 3-8, and half a game behind first place Hamilton… really. Montreal hosts Calgary on Sunday.

Mariners
Nothing to report as the 2015 season remains in question will the battle with the Baltimore Arena remains an issue.

Blast:
Blast will be celebrating 35 years of consecutive operation this year.

Chesapeake Bayhawks: (Home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium)
Supplemental draft set for December 17.

Charm:
Nothing to Report.

Capitals (See website for more details):
Capitals celebrating 40th anniversary season… Nationals Park to host Capitals versus Blackhawks in 2015 Winter Classic.

Wizards (See website for more details):
Preseason starts November 6.

Mystics (See website for more details):
Phoenix sweeps Chicago 3-0 for the title.

D.C.United (See website for more details):
United (14-9-5) lost this week, and are now only 2 points ahead of KC (13-10-6).

What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Actually, never mind. No one is reading this anyway so you probably won’t know the difference. Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!

Iggy’s Predictions

“Past performance does not guarantee future success, but it sure is the way to bet!”

  • Week 1:
    • pittsburgh (+2.5) over Baltimore. Can you really pick the Ravens after THAT performance? So Glad to be wrong!
    • Fins over Bills (+0.5). Fins are for real this year. Bills are just pretending. Or did I have that backwards?
    • Potatoes over Jags (+5.5), but take the points. This might be a rare opponent the Skins can actually beat Cousins is in. Skins could turn the train wreck around now.
    • Titans over Dallas (+3.5). Can Dallas look worse than last week? They are gonna try. Dallas figured out how to win, but can they repeat it?
    • Giants over Arizona (+.5). This one can really go either way. Giants are midgets this year.
    • Pats over Vikings (+3.5), but take the points. I can’t tell if the Pats are falling, or the Vikings are rising… or Both!?! Pats rebound, Vikings… not so much.
    • Saints over Cleveland (+6.5). If the Browns can overcome 24 points down against pittsburgh, why not do the same against the Saints? Browns what? Won? Really? REALLY?
    • Falcons (+5.5) over Bengals. Cincinnati will be blind sided by the Falcons. Cincinnati could be tough to catch this year.
    • Detroit (+2.5) over Carolina. Detroit might finally have the pieces this year to make the playoffs. Carolina moves to 2-0
    • Tampa over Rams (+5.5). Rams, with all their extra draft picks, still suck. Rams actually beat someone… or did the other team beat themselves?
    • Seattle over Chargers (+5.5). Blow out of the week. Seattle upset by Chargers. Of course, most team would be upset to lose to the Chargers.
    • Oakland (+2.5) over Houston. Black hole factor involving 2 teams that would benefit from being sucked in. Houston moves to 2-0.
    • Packers over Jets (+8.5). 8 not enough to tempt me. It’s still the Jets. Packers almost lost to the Jets.
    • Denver over KC (+13.5), but take the points. Too many points to give up on an early season divisional game. KC stays close enough to cover.
    • Niners over Bears (+7.5), but take the points. Bears may have lost to the Bills, but they will rebound for this game. Niners were on their way, until they choked.
    • Indy over Philly (+3.5), but take the points. To many possibilities for 2 erratic teams. Another prime time melt down.
    • This Week: 4-12 Straight Up and 4-12 Against the Spread
    • Season: 21-20 Straight Up and 10-22 Against the Spread
  • Week 2:
    • Atlanta over Tampa (+6.5). Falcons own this.
    • Browns (+1.5) over Ravens. Browns beat the Saints. I am concerned.
    • Chargers (+2.5) over Buffalo. Still not drinking the Buffalo Kool Aid.
    • Dallas over Rams (+1.5). Dallas to continue their win streak against week opponents.
    • Philly over Was (+6.5), but take the points. With Cousins behind center, Washington has a good chance here.
    • Houston over Giants (+2.5). Yes, the Giants could be that bad this year.
    • Saints over Vikings (+9.5), but take the points. Saints lost to the Browns.
    • Cincinnati over Tennessee (+6.5). Bengals could be for real.
    • Packers (+1.5) over Detroit. This one could really go either way.
    • Indy over Jax (+6.5). 0-2 Indy won’t be 0-3.
    • Pats over Oakland (+14.5), but take the points. Those are way too many points to pass on.
    • Zona (+2.5) over SF. Strange things happen in that desert, and SF already choked on the bears.
    • Denver (+4.5) over Seattle. Seattle will try to rebound, but can they?
    • Miami over KC (+4.5), but take the points. KC showed some real promise against Denver last week.
    • steelers (+3.5) over Carolina. steelers can’t be as bad as they looked against us, can they? One can hope!
    • Bears (+2.5) over Jets. Jets aren’t as good as their 1-1 record.
