Iggy’s Ravens Report – October 2, 2012

News & Commentary

News and Personal Thoughts:
Nothing to Report.

Ravens:
The real refs were back… and… I remember watching real football. They didn’t adversely affect the game. They left that to the Ravens, who were so sloppy, the local pigs were licking their chops. Lets face it folks, Defense is no longer our specialty. Cleveland was a few dropped passes from embarrassing us, and don’t expect different results in Kansas City. As long as the offense can run the hurry up and keep the other teams Defense off balance, we can win. We may be 3-1, but there is a lot of questions that still need to get answered, which starts with a more consistent pass rush.

Orioles:
The Orioles have clinched the playoffs, but will they get a home game? That is what I have been waiting for, and with Monday’s loss, the Orioles dropped down to the 5th playoff seed. The only things certain right now, is that Detroit is the 3 seed, while New York, Oakland, Texas and the Orioles are all within 1 game of each other and can all end up in any of the 4 remaining seeds. Winning out only guarantees a home game, but leaves the Orioles in the 1, 2 or 4 spot. What a train wreck, but one I am glad to ponder.

Alouettes
The Als (8-5) lost at Hamilton (5-8) on Friday, 41-28, while Toronto cut the division lead in half, to 1 game. The Als will host last place Winnipeg (3-10) on Monday.

Blast:
2012-13 Schedule has been posted. The Blast have also announced that they will partner with the family of Daniel Borowy, 17 year old victim of shooting at Perry Hall High, to create the “Goals for Daniel” program, to help the family defray the medical costs after he has undergone 3 surgeries.

Chesapeake Bayhawks: (Home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium)
Nothing to Report.

Charm:
The Lingerie Football League announced that they are cancelling their 2012 season. The reason for the change is that the league plans on changing from a fall league to a spring and summer league in the 2012-13 season. The League stated that they have plans to expand during the hiatus and continue to look for athletes, or talent, or (insert your own word) here to fill the new teams they have planned. The planned expansion includes having separate league based in Canada and launching a version of LFL Australia. The League also announced that they will hold promotional tours in Mexico, Australia, and Asia during the hiatus in an effort to expand their brand globally. They have planned an “All-Fantasy Game” or All-Star Game for Brisbane. The Toronto Triumph have moved from the LFL’s American Division to be part of the new all-Canadian league which be known as LFL Canada. This league will play their games starting in the fall of 2012. The league will feature four teams, the aforementioned Triumph, the B.C. Angels based in Vancouver, along with the Regina Rage, and Saskatoon Sirens who will be sure to be bitter hair-pulling rivals on the field. The League is also planning LFL Europe league to launch in 2014. Cities have yet to be announced. The League also announced that it hopes to have its 4 champions (USA, Canada, Europe, Australia) meet in a tournament every four years to determine an LFL World Champion.

Capitals (See website for more details):
Nothing to report.

Wizards (See website for more details):
Guard John Wall will miss approximately eight weeks after being diagnosed with the early stages of a stress injury to his left patella. No surgery will be necessary, and his rehab will begin immediately. They also signed free agent guard Jannero Pargo.

Mystics (See website for more details):

D.C.United (See website for more details):
United (15-10-6) tied Portland (7-15-9) to remain in the 4th playoff spot, now 2 points behind NY and Chicago, and 2 points ahead of
Houston with 3 games left. Next game is Saturday against Toronto (5-19-7, 10th place).

What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Actually, never mind. No one is reading this anyway so you probably won’t know the difference. Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!

Iggy’s Predictions

  • Week 4
    • Baltimore over Cleveland (+12.5), but take the points. I hate giving up that many points, but this offense could cover it… but can the defense? Doesn’t help when you botch extra points too.
    • San Fran over Jets (+3.5). San Fran will rebound with a stellar effort against a team that is not as good as their record indicates. The Hot Dog and the Holy Roller are zeroed out
    • Pats over Buffalo (+3.5). Should would like to see Tom Brady cry again, but after they dropped below .500 for the first time in 9 years, I don’t see that hole getting that much bigger. Thought Buffalo was going to win… and then NE put it in overdrive.
    • Seattle over Rams (+2.5). Are the Refs on the Seahawks payroll this week too? Seattle still can’t believe they beat Green Bay the week before.
    • Falcons over Carolina (+6.5). Atlanta could have the complete package this year. Took a nail biter, but the Falcons won, not covered.
    • Detroit over Minnesota (+4.5), but take the points. Detroit is better than their record, and Minnesota is not as good as theirs. Minnesota apparently is clicking on D.
    • KC (+.5) over San Diego. KC has most yards gained in the NFL, and that has to count for something, right? That was some bad advice!
    • Houston over Tennessee (+12.5). Titans have the 2nd worst offense in the NFL right now. In my opinion, Houston is best of the AFC.
    • Bengals overs Jax (+2.5). Cincinnati should crush them. 17 points isn’t exactly a “crush” but close enough.
    • Denver over Oakland (+6.5) but take the points. After last weeks win, Raiders might be able to give Denver a run for their money. Is this the same team that beat pittsburgh the week before?
    • Arizona over Miami (+6.5), but take the points. Cards didn’t get to 3-0 by accident, and Miami is better than most give them credit. After losing most of the game, the Cards post the come from behind win in OT
    • Tampa over Washington (+2.5). I just want to see the skins fans whine some more. Music to my ears. Cundiff missing 3 FGs, but hit the game winner.
    • Packers over Ain’ts (+7.5), but take the points. Packers should be pretty ticked off after Monday night. Saints have problems. 1 point game.
    • Giants (+2.5) over Philly. Philly can’t cover the spread to save their life. Somehow, Vick wins again, but doesn’t cover a 2.5 point spread.
    • Bears (+3.5) over Cowboys. How can they favor the boys after 2 lackluster efforts, back to back? Da Bears!
    • This Week:: 10-5 Straight Up, and 10-5 Against the Spread
    • Season:: 39-24 Straight Up, and 37-26 Against the Spread
  • Week 5
    • Arizona over Rams (+1.5).
    • Ravens over Chiefs (+4.5), but take the points.Confidence in D keeps going down.
    • steelers over Eagles (+3.5), but take the points.Vick seems to keep the games close; steelers have some key D players back.
    • Packers over Colts (+7.5).Mismatch.
    • Giants over Browns (+9.5), but take the points.Browns could be good, with a few quality receivers.
    • Falcons over skins (+3.5), but take the points.Atlanta is best in the NFC, but RG3 and Cundiff could make it interesting.
    • Bengals over Fins (+3.5), but take the points.Miami is better than their record indicates.
    • Seattle (2.5) over Carolina. Two teams going somewhere, but nobody knows where yet.
    • Bears over Jax (+5.5).Jags may have a win, but might be worst in the league.
    • Pats over Denver (+6.5).Brady has a better cast of characters around him than Peyton.
    • Niners over Bills (+9.5).Bills have improved a lot, but SF might have the scariest D package in the league.
    • Vikings over Tennessee (+5.5).Locker is out; Hasslebeck starting for Titans.
    • Chargers (+3.5) over Saints.Saints could get their first win, but the numbers point the other way.
    • Houston over Jets (+7.5). Could the Hot Dog and the Holy Roller get blanked for 2nd straight week?
