Iggy’s Ravens Report – October 16, 2012

News & Commentary

News and Personal Thoughts:
Let’s Go… er… um… Tigers?!

Ravens:
That was a costly victory. In another game where the team failed to produce any defense, the Cowboys reset the Ravens record books for most yards allowed rushing in a game. With Lewis and Webb now out for the season, and Ngata nursing an MCL, the Ravens need for several someones to start stepping up, Flacco and the O to outscore Houston, or a miracle to occur. Rushing Suggs back into the game could have devastating long term affects on his recovery. Despite entering in to this game tied for best record in the conference, the Ravens could be facing their first defeat to Houston since they entered the league. I hate to sound all doom and gloom, but the reality of the matter is we are running out luck fast, and unless Harbs can start unearthing players like Buck Showalter did this past season, we could be in for a long 2nd half to the season.

Orioles:
It’s done. The miracle season is done. No fairy tale ending. Despite winning 2 out of 3 in NY thrice this season, the fourth did not materialize as our season long plague of batting with runners in scoring position continued to hamper our efforts. This off season shall be very interesting, as the O’s are faced with a lot of hard decision with many decent players. The key is identifying and maintain a core set of players, and finding good (not over the hill, past their prime washouts) veterans to give some experience to the line-up as the rebuild for another playoff run. The Orioles darn near set the franchise record for most players used this season, and have to figure out how many of those should be kept and in what capacity.

Alouettes
The Als (9-6) defeated Toronto (7-8) 24-12 on Sunday to open a 2 game division lead. Montreal travels to Saskatchewan (8-7) for a Saturday game this week.

Blast:
2012-13 Schedule has been posted. The season opens on November 3.

Chesapeake Bayhawks: (Home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium)
Nothing to Report.

Charm:
(No change in status from last weeks report, but repeated in case you missed it) The Lingerie Football League announced that they are cancelling their 2012 season. The reason for the change is that the league plans on changing from a fall league to a spring and summer league in the 2012-13 season.
The League stated that they have plans to expand during the hiatus and continue to look for athletes, or talent, or (insert your own word) here to fill the new teams they have planned. The planned expansion includes having separate league based in Canada and launching a version of LFL Australia.
The League also announced that they will hold promotional tours in Mexico, Australia, and Asia during the hiatus in an effort to expand their brand globally. They have planned an “All-Fantasy Game” or All-Star Game for Brisbane.
The Toronto Triumph have moved from the LFL’s American Division to be part of the new all-Canadian league which be known as LFL Canada. This league will play their games starting in the fall of 2012. The league will feature four teams, the aforementioned Triumph, the B.C. Angels based in Vancouver, along with the Regina Rage, and Saskatoon Sirens who will be sure to be bitter hair-pulling rivals on the field.
The League is also planning LFL Europe league to launch in 2014. Cities have yet to be announced.
The League also announced that it hopes to have its 4 champions (USA, Canada, Europe, Australia) meet in a tournament every four years to determine an LFL World Champion

Capitals (See website for more details):
League offers 50/50 split in revenues.

Wizards (See website for more details):
Season opens November 3.

Mystics (See website for more details):

D.C.United (See website for more details):
United (16-10-6) was off this week. Next game, the home finale, will be Saturday at RFK against Columbus (14-11-7), who is fighting for the last playoff spot. DC is in 3rd place, and can clinch a playoff spot with a win.

What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Actually, never mind. No one is reading this anyway so you probably won’t know the difference. Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!

Iggy’s Predictions

  • Week 6Very strange week…
    • stealers over Titans (+5.5). As much as I would like to see the Titans pull an upset, stealers are in better shape, even with their injuries. stealers are falling apart as fast as the Ravens!
    • Baltimore over Dallas (+3.5), but take the points. Upset Warning! Dallas has 4th ranked Defense. Almost lost this outright!
    • Tampa over KC (+3.5), but take the points. KC can move the ball, just not hold on to it. Should have known better. I’ve seen KC’s Offense work before.
    • Indy (+3.5) over Jets. Colts to get lucky again. Jets come in hot… next week… probably not!
    • Cleveland (+2.5) over Cincinnati. Browns are real close to finally winning a game, and this could be the week. One of my few right picks this week.
    • Philly over Detroit (+4.5), but take the points. Philly has yet to cover a spread. Detroit comes from 10 down to win in OT
    • Atlanta over Oakland (+8.5). Blowout of the week prediction. Why did this take OT?
    • Rams (+3.5) over Miami. After big win against Cincy, Fins are poised for a let down against a well rested Rams team. They had a 14 point lead… what happened?
    • Cards over Buffalo (+4.5). Buffalo is still seeing 49er birdies flying around their head as they line up for 2nd straight game in the West. Buffalo in OT. Strange. Very Strange.
    • Pats over Seattle (+3.5). Struggled with this pick since Seattle has #1 ranked defense. But then I looked at offense where Seattle ranks 27th Friend at work said I shouldn’t go against Seattle at home. I’ll have to keep that in mind for next time.
    • Niners over Giants (+5.5), but take the points. Niners finally get a decent opponent in NFC title game rematch. Giants repeat January win… with exclamation points.
    • Vikings (+1.5) over skins. RG3 is not all that, and the surprising Vikes will win this one as Cundiff misses another kick. RG3 will return to reality soon.
    • Houston over Green Bay (+3.5). Packers falling apart, and Houston is the best in the AFC. Who woke up Rodgers?
    • Chargers over Denver (+2.5). Should be an exciting Monday night game! WTF? It was 24-0 at half time…
    • This Week:: 4-10 Straight Up, and 5-9 Against the Spread
    • Season:: 53-38 Straight Up, and 50-41 Against the Spread
  • Week 7Warning: I was burned last week by all the dogs winning/covering, so this weeks picks are a little heavy on the underdogs…
    • Niners over Seattle (+7.5), but take the points .Seattle is 4-0 as the dog so far this season, but this game is in SF.
    • Houston over Baltimore (+6.5), but take the points. With all the injuries, I am hoping the Ravens can keep it close enough to cover.
    • Minnesota over Arizona (+5.5), but take the points.Cards are undefeated as the dog so far.
    • Cowboys over Panthers (+2.5).Records against the spread point the other way, but I think Dallas will recover from last weeks loss to the Ravens.
    • Tampa (+2.5) over Saints.Tampa is 3-0 and covered twice on points as the dog.
    • Pack over Rams (+5.5), but take the points.StL is 5-1 as the dog, while Green Bay is 1-4 as the Fav.
    • Giants over Skins (+6.5).Giants put an end to the skins fans bragging (please!)
    • Bills over Titans (+3.5).Buffalo looks to keep first place standing against a floundering Titan team (despite surprise victory against stealer last week)
    • Browns (+3.5) over Colts.Cleveland is about 2 receivers short of a good team.
    • Pats over Jets (+10.5), but take the points. Can’t tell what to do with the Jets. So Erratic.
    • Raiders over Jax (+4.5).East coast team travels west and gets stomped. It’s tradition.
    • Bengals (+2.5) over steelers.steeler are really hurting in the injury department, and they have the record to prove it.
    • Bears eat Lions (+5.5). Bears are 3-0 as the Favorite, while Detroit is another disappointment.
  • MLB
    • Wild Card Round (0-2)
    • Divisional Round (0-4)
      • Orioles over Yankees in 5. Being the underdog in this series is actually a plus for the O’s who are 6-3 in NY this season, and hold the AL’s best road record. *&%^(*&#%^(*&^@%*&
      • A’s over Detroit in 4. Can anyone stop the red hot A’s? Can I go 0’fer the whole playoffs?
      • washington over Cards in 4. Cards shouldn’t be here. What a 9th inning to end the season!
      • Reds over Giants in 4. Reds are the team to beat this year, I think. Reds Collapsed
    • Championship Round
      • Yankees over Tigers in 6. Detroit barely made the playoffs, and you expect them to win? Go Tigers! Up 2-0!
      • Giants over Cards in 6. Cards should never have made it out of the first 2 rounds… But then again, Giants should never have beaten Cincinnati Series tied at 1
