Iggy’s Baltimore Sports Report – January 28, 2014

Ravens:
The Ravens hired Gary Kubiak and most of his previous staff members to fix the Ravens Offense. Kubs is well respected for his offensive prowess, but could have his work cut out for himself with a undersized front line that is confused over their blocking scheme, wide receivers that can’t get open, and an average quarterback making elite dollars.

Orioles:
Brian Roberts offended the Orioles community by saying that “everyone dreams of putting on those pin stripes.” What he really meant was that he grew up a Yankees fan in North Carolina, and this is something he always wanted, but he didn’t intend to offend the Orioles and their fans. Ok, whatever… Fanfest is on Saturday at the Baltimore Convention Center, or whatever they call it nowadays.

Alouettes
Quarterback Anthony Calvillo announces his retirement… CFL investigating eliminating the extra point. Teams would still have the option of “going for 2,” but they would have to risk that automatic extra point just to make the attempt. The proposal is still being batted around the rules committee, and is not very close to a formal proposal yet.

Blast:
The Blast (10-3) won back to back games this weekend at home, taking their revenge on Syracuse 10-5, and then disposing of Rochester 17-2. They are in 2nd place, half a game behind Milwaukee, and 1.5 games ahead of Missouri. They will travel to Syracuse for a game on Friday.

Chesapeake Bayhawks: (Home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium)
Nothing to Report.

Charm:
Nothing to Report.

Capitals (See website for more details):
The Caps finally broke their 7 game losing streak on Saturday with a 5-0 win over Montreal. With that slump they dropped to 7th in the division and 12th in the conference.

Wizards (See website for more details):
The Wizards (21-22) have hit .500 5 times so far this season, but still haven’t made it over .500. Miraculously, they are still 3rd in the division, and 6th in the conference.

Mystics (See website for more details):
Nothing to report.

D.C.United (See website for more details):
Nothing new to report.

What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Actually, never mind. No one is reading this anyway so you probably won’t know the difference. Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!

Iggy’s Predictions

“Past performance does not guarantee future success, but it sure is the way to bet!”

  • NFL Conference Championship Games:
    • Pats (+4.5) over Denver. Okay, here me out. After a fast start, Denver has been struggling to put away teams lately, meanwhile the Pats have been putting up a lot of points, especially late in the game. Momentum is with the Pats. So much for logic!
    • Niners (+3.5) over Hawks. Another wild pick, but once again, Seattle may have the number 1 defense, but their offense has struggled to put up TDs, leaving many games closer than they should be. Niners have ridden emotional wins against the Packers in zero degree temperatures, and then a revenge victory over the upstart Panthers. They can play in any conditions right now, and Seattle does not intimidate them. Niners choked in the 4th quarter with 3 giveaways.
    • Last Week:: 0-2 Straight Up, and 0-2 Against the Spread
    • Season:: 163-103 Straight Up, and 128-138 Against the Spread
  • Super Bowl:
    • Seattle (+2.5) over Denver. 2 West coast teams traveling East for a Super Bowl match-up that many have been wanting all season. Denver should win because I picked Seattle. Yeah, I’m good that way!
