Iggy’s Baltimore Sports Report – August 23, 2015

Ravens:
In contrast to the first game where a lot of things went right, last night was the mirror opposite. Despite the Raven-focused flag centric officials, we failed to execute the basics, and let the flags affect our play in same cases, or lead to repeat offenders in others where we were convinced we weren’t doing anything wrong. The game demonstrated a failure in special teams, ineffective passing game, and continued our trend of insufficient pressure on the quarterback. On paper, they might be predicting great things for us this year, but we need to start living up to expectations. I know it is only preseason, but the sense of urgency needs to start now as they start reducing the team to its required size.

Orioles:
Orioles are only a few games out of the wild card chase, but they are demonstrating that they are only an average team. A trip to the post season would be an over-achievement this year. Inconsistency and an over-dependence on the long ball will do us in this year, and unless they are willing to spend the bucks to keep Davis, Parra, O’Day, and possible even Chen, next year will be another rebuilding year. A key acquisition is the elusive premier pitcher, which the O’s have traditionally stayed away from.

Alouettes
The Al’s defeats BC 23-13 on Thursday, but are in last place at 3-5, 3 games behind division leading Hamilton.

Blast (MASL):
The Blast are hosting their annual Baltimore Summer Football Festival on Friday September 11th from 5-10pm at the Metro Centre at Owings Mills. Event is advertised to have food and fun for the whole family.

Chesapeake Bayhawks: (Home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium)
Long Island beat Rochester 15-12 for the championship.

Charm:
Nothing to Report.

Capitals (See website for more details):
Nothing to Report.

Wizards (See website for more details):
Wizards start the season on the road on October 28, in Orlando. First home game in on Halloween against the Nicks

Mystics (See website for more details):
Mystics have dropped to 3rd place at 15-10, and 3 games behind the New York Liberty, and 1 game behind the Indiana Fever.

D.C.United (See website for more details):
DC (13-9-5, 44 points) are still in first place, but now only 5 points ahead of New York Red Bulls.

What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Actually, never mind. No one is reading this anyway so you probably won’t know the difference. Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!
