Iggy’s Baltimore Sports Report – January 2, 2017

Ravens:
Do you really want me to review that fiasco? Essentially, all our weaknesses were exposed as we struggled in all phases of the game. Question is: Does it matter? Answer is No. It was better to lose than to win since there are no playoffs this year. Our draft order improved to #16, just ahead of wershington. Had we won, we would have slipped to 17-20, as they calculate tie breakers with 3 other teams, and wershington would have picked ahead of us.

What was more exciting (and disappointing) was how the Browns failed to put away the squealors. Couldn’t they just win that one game? Couldn’t they stop that final OT drive? F No!

2017 Scheduling: With the Chefs moving ahead of Oakland, we now have to travel to Oakland next season. Non-divisional opponents are set as Houston, Indy, Chicago, Detroit and Miami at home; and London (Jaguars), Tennessee, Green Bay, Minnesota and Oakland on the road.

Free Agent watch. The following folks have contracts expiring on February 6: WR Steve Smith (declared retirement), WR Kamar Aiken, CB Jarraud Powers, SS Matt Elam, DE Lawrence Guy, FS Anthony Levine, QB Ryan Mallett, G Vladimir Ducasse, DT Brandon Williams, FB Kyle Juszczyk, and RT Ricky Wagner.

Orioles:
Nothing to report.

Alouettes
Nothing to report.

Blast (MASL):
The Blast (6-3) split a pair of weekend games, but are still in first place, 1.5 games ahead of Harrisburg (4-4).

Chesapeake Bayhawks: (Home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium)
Nothing to report.

Capitals (See website for more details):
Caps (22-9-5) are still in 4th place, now 7 points behind Columbus. 6 teams have a better record in the NHL, but unfortunately, 3 of them are in our division.

Wizards (See website for more details):
Sea Level! Wizards (16-16) reached .500, and find themselves tied for the 6th best record in the conference, and meaning that they are closer to the top than the bottom.

D.C.United (See website for more details):
Nothing to report.

What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Actually, never mind. No one is reading this anyway so you probably won’t know the difference. Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!

Iggy’s Predictions

“Past performance does not guarantee future success, but it sure is the way to bet!”

  • Week 17:
    • Ravens over @Bengals (+2.5). Who Cares? Ravens have won or covered 2 straight as the underdog. F that.
    • @Titans over Texans (+3.5). Who Cares? Houston in the playoffs, Titans are not. Game has no real bearing on playoffs. So what?
    • Bills over @Jets (+3.5). Who Cares? Both are out of the playoffs, and Jets are terrible ATS. Jets win. Anyone notice?
    • @Colts over Jags (+4.5). Who Cares? Jags can only hurt thier draft order. But they didn’t cover. Why bother?
    • Dallas (+3.5) over @Eagles. Who Cares? Neither team has anything to gain. Dallas is fixed at #1 in NFC, and Eagles traded away thier top pick to cloverland. Turns out, Eagles get another lower pick from MN.
    • @Vikings over da Bears (+5.5), but take the points. Who Cares? Bears have covered 3 of last 5. Bears checked out.
    • @Bucs over Panthers (+6.5). Bucs need win and help to make the playoffs. Tampa wins, didn’t get help.
    • @squealors over Brownies (+6.5). Who Cares? They are 9-4 as favorite. Once again, Browns snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
    • pats over @Fins (+9.5), but take the points. Who Cares? Well, actually, Pats look to lock up top seed, again. NE got playoff ready.
    • @skins over Midgets (+7.5), but take the points. skins win and they are in (barring a Bears/Packers tie). Alas, they are not.
    • Falcons over Saints (+6.5), but take the points. Who Cares? Falcons look to lock up bye with a win, but Saints are 7-1 as the underdog, so take the points. The one game I was right both SU and ATS.
    • @Rams (+6.5) over Cards. Who Cares? Rams won at Arizona earlier in the season. Cardinals got even.
    • Chefs over Chargers (+5.5), but take the points. Who Cares? Chefs have division title in mind, but only squeaked by Chargers earlier at home. Chefs smelled division title and a first round bye.
    • hawks over SF (+9.5). Who Cares? Hawks won by 19 earlier this season. 9.5 might not be enough. SF made a game of it.
    • Raiders (+1.5) over @Broncos. Who Cares? Raiders will find a way to win without starting QB. Raider will make a brief post season appearance next week.
    • @Lions (+3.5) over Packers. Division title and playoff spot on the line. Lions are 5-3 as the underdog, while Packers are 4-8 as the favorite. Packers take division, Lions sneak in with WC.
    • This Week: 9-7 SU, 2-14 ATS
    • This Season: 146-108-2 SU, 112-144 ATS
  • Wild Card:
    • @Houston over Raiders (+2.5). Despite the stats and the fact that the Raiders won in Oakland against Houston earlier this year, Raiders are lost without their Carr.
    • @Seattle over Lions (+7.5), but take the points. Seattle is 5-8, failing to cover 4 times as the favorite. These 2 did not meet during the regular season.
    • @squealors over Fins (+9.5), but take the points. Miami won at home 30-15 during regular season, but now they have to travel to the eerily lucky squealors.
    • @GB over Giants (+4.5), but take the points. Packers won 23-16 at home during the regular season, but are horrible ATS.
