Iggy’s Ravens Report – September 11, 2012

News and Personal Thoughts:
Not thinking… Still in shock from last nights “game!”

Ravens:
Wow! What a win! Of course, the game was a lot closer until those 17 points in just over 2 minutes at the end of the 3rd and start of the 4th quarter. After that Cincinnati imploded. Offensive line held up, and the D finally got a few sacks while the Bengals were in desperation mode. Officials couldn’t spot the ball correctly to save their life, and we benefits from many blown calls (but not all). Looks like the Scab refs will be here for a few more weeks, as a schedule has been drawn thru week 5.

Orioles:
O’s split the weekend series with the damn yankees, leaving us not better or worse than when the series started within the division. We are 1 game behind the yanks, and 1 up on Tampa. Oakland now has a 2 game lead over us for the top wild card spot, as they creep up on Texas. A lot of baseball left, but the O’s are on pace to win between 90 and 93 games. An analysis of recent history indicates that, on average, teams with 90 wins will get in, however there have been some years where it took 96. I was there Friday for the O’s/Yankees game and now I remember why I hate going to O’s/Yankees ames. Their fans are rude, obnoxious, disrespectful… they might as well be steeler fans!

Alouettes
The Als (6-4) got stomped by BC (7-3), 43-10, on Friday night, dropping them in to a tie for first with Toronto, whom will visit Montreal on Saturday for a first place showdown.

Blast:
2012-13 Schedule has been posted.

Mystics (See website for more details):

United (12-10-5) was off this week, and will host New England (7-14-7, 8th place Eastern Conference) on Saturday. DC is still in 6th place (5 teams make the playffs).

What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Actually, never mind. No one is reading this anyway so you probably won’t know the difference. Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!

Iggy’s Predictions

  • Week 1
    • Giants over Dallas (+3.5). Eli looking for more. Looks like Eli didn’t find anything.
    • Bears over Indy (+9.5). Colts need more than Luck to cover that spread. They needed a lot more than Luck!
    • Philly over Cleveland (+8.5), but take the points. Philadelphia will be their own vicktim this season. Philly barely won, never mind trying to cover.
    • Pats over Titans (+6.5). Pats saying they have upgraded their offense… Titans have downgraded theirs. That was a practice game for Brady.
    • Falcons over KC (+2.5). So many of the Falcons offense players are rated extremely high in the FFLs… all except Ryan. Explain that? KC should do better against lesser opponents.
    • Minnesota over Jacksonville (+4.5). Both teams look like bombs for 2012 (and not the scoring kind). I picked the home team. … and the Home team wins!
    • Saints over skins (+9.5), but take the points. Saints took a lot of hits in the offseason and have a lot to prove, but RG3 might be the answer for Washington. What was the question again? Who’s RG3? He didn’t looked cubed…
    • Jets over Bills (+3.5), but take the points. Jets are in complete disarray… but they are playing the Bills… New name for the the Jets: Hot Dog and the Holy Roller!
    • Lions over Rams (+8.5), but take the points. Taking points is a gutsy call here, but Bradford is in a make or break season. I think they will still be asking that question, come January. Rams almost won outright!
    • Houston over Miami (+10.5). I was tempted by those points, but then I read that the fins are starting a rookie QB, with only Davonne Bess to receive, and the oft-injured Reggie Bush at RB. Houston made the playoffs last season and are looking to build off of that. No competition. Miami could be in for a long season.
    • Packers over SF (+5.5), but take the points. Both teams are well matched, but the difference is Rodgers. Packers win in OT (or at the buzzer) by a field goal. San Fran is for real!
    • Seattle over Arizona (+2.5). Will anyone notice that these two teams played this weekend? Didn’t think so. Should have stuck with the Home Team plan on toss up games!
    • Carolina over Tampa (+2.5). Tampa has restocked, but Cam Newton is still emerging as a premier quarterback (a process that usually never finishes, but he has a pretty good shot) Newton bombs again.
    • Denver over pittsburgh (+1.5). Manning is not done yet. …and the pittsburgh fans that they don’t whine… BS!
    • Ravens over Cincy (+6.5), but take the points. Can the Ravens actually blow people out this season with the new offense? That, or Sam Koch has a probowl season! Ravens explode for 17 points in just over 2 minutes to make this a laugher. Until then, it wasn’t.
    • Chargers over Raiders (+1.5). Chargers have a lot of injuries, but the road team seems to rule this matchup. Chargers Charged ahead!
    • 2011 Record: 178-89 (67%) Straight Up, and 144-123 (54%) Against the Spread.
    • This Week:: 11-5 Straight Up, and 10-6 Against the Spread
  • Week 2
    • Packers over Bears (+5.5). This could be a good game. Bears looked good last week, but the pack needs this to get back on track.
    • Baltimore (+2.5) over Philly. Philly barely gets by Cleveland and they are favored?
    • KC (+3.5) over Buffalo. KC is better than last weeks performance.
    • Indy (+1.5) over Minnesota. Luck will finally get lucky (also, it’s the home team plan on toss up game).
    • Saints over Carolina (+2.5). Saints need to smash someone after losing to the skins. Sorry Carolina, your number is up.
    • Houston over Jax (+7.5). Texans are on a mission.
    • Raiders over Miami (+2.5). Miami ain’t shown me much yet, but the Raider will this weekend.
    • Pats over Cards (+13.5). You will need a lot more points to entice me. Cards are in disarray for a lot of reasons.
    • Giants over Tampa (+7.5). Giants need to keep pace with the… um… skins.
    • Bengals over Browns (+7.5), but take the points. Cincy has something to prove at Monday night.
    • Rams (+2.5) over Washington. Now, someone has some tape to study on RG3.
    • Cowboys over Seattle (+2.5). I watched the end of the Seattle game last week. That’s enough to pick whomever they are playing.
    • steelers over Jets (+6.5). Jets don’t match up against anyone decent.
    • Chargers over Tennessee (+5.5). Chargers will build on last weeks win, but don’t worry, they will collapse later in the season like usual.
    • Niners over Detroit (+6.5). San Fran is the team to beat in the NFC.
    • Falcons over Broncos (+3.5), but take the points. This could be an offensive bonanza.
