Iggy’s Baltimore Sports Report – October 15, 2013

Ravens:
The Ravens inability to establish themselves on offense produced this loss. A heavy dependency (again) on a passing attack using yet to be proven receivers because the running game went no where cost the Ravens the game as was exhibited on the 4 failed running plays inside the 5 yard line that resulted in a turnover on downs. More creativity needs to be employed to open up running holes and to protect Flacco from more punt-like INTs (last week), and the sack-fumble at the end of the first half which gave them a second chance at those 3 points they just conceded to us on their previous possession with the wide right kick. The fumble and the failure to punch the ball into the end zone cost us the game. Not to mention, our pass rush put up 3 early sacks on Rodgers, but then failed to produce another one throughout the rest of the game. This was another game that will haunt us down the road, but not as much as next weeks matchup could. The trip to pittsburgh is a MUST-WIN to maintain pace within the division, and to squash any dreams they might have after their first win last week against the Jets. A loss will virtually tie us with them, with both teams sporting 4 losses on the season.

Orioles:
Manny Machado decides to undergo reconstructive surgery on his knee since he has injured it 2 years ago, and is likely to reinjure again without the surgery. He hopes to be ready for opening day, and the Orioles expect him to participate in spring training, but experts believe he won’t be ready until a couple weeks into the 2014 campaign.

Alouettes
The Als (6-9, 3rd) let the Blue Bombers (3-12) sneak away with a 34-27 victory. They will host 2nd place Hamilton (8-7) on Sunday.

Blast:
2013-14 Schedule has been released. (Nothing new to report)

Chesapeake Bayhawks: (Home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium)
Nothing to report.

Charm:
Nothing to Report.

Capitals (See website for more details):
The Caps finally notched their 2nd win of the season.

Wizards (See website for more details):
Wizards to host Knicks in Baltimore on October 17 for a preseason game.

Mystics (See website for more details):
Nothing to report.

D.C.United (See website for more details):
DC United (3-22-7) finally didn’t lose with a 1-1 tie against Philadelphia. 2 games left in the debacle of a season.

What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Actually, never mind. No one is reading this anyway so you probably won’t know the difference. Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!

Iggy’s Predictions

“Past performance does not guarantee future success, but it sure is the way to bet!”

  • NFL Week 6:
    • Bears over Giants (+7.5), but take the points. Giants are the victims of bad luck right now. Giants did just enough to not win.
    • Packers over Ravens (+3.5), but take the points. I want to believe. Be the 12th man, Baltimore! Bad luck kept us out of the endzone early on and gave the Packers second chances at points, costing us the game.
    • Bengals over Bills (+7.5). Points were tempting, but Bills are QB-less. Bills force OT, showing they have some spunk left in them.
    • Browns (+2.5) over Lions. Yeah, you read that right. Browns blew early lead, and shows us what Cleveland is really made of.
    • Houston over Rams (+7.5). Houston, at home, needs this to keep season from going to the brink now. Houston is lost.
    • Chiefs over Raiders (+9.5). Points were tempting, but Raiders are on the Road. Game was close until the end, allowing the Chiefs to cover the points with a late score and a pick-6.
    • Vikings over Carolina (+2.5). Will anyone notice when this game ends? Adrian Peterson. So terrible. Really expect him to play after that.
    • stealers (+2.5) over Jets. They need this win before we face them next week. Let’s home they don’t get an grand delusions after 1 win.
    • Eagles over Bucs (+1.5). Two teams playing with a new QB this week. Tampa put up a fight, but Nick Foles leads Eagles to a win.
    • Denver over Jags (+27.5). I expect Denver to run up the score before half time, and then play bench warmers the 2nd half, allow the Jags to barely cover in the biggest line since the merger. Jags put up a good fight, cover the points.
    • Seattle over Tennessee (+13.5). Tennessee is good, but Seattle is at home, where they are a different team. Tennessee kept it close enough to cover.
    • Saints (+2.5) over Pats. NE is overrated. period. TD with 5 seconds left dooms Saints.
    • Niners over Arizona (+11.5), but take the points. Too many points in a division game that tends to give SF troubles. Niners win by 12.
    • Dallas over Washington (+5.5), but take the points. No shooting match this week for Romo, I don’t think. Skins lose again, NFC East now has division leader AT .500
    • San Diego (+1.5) over Indianapolis. Chargers are 5-0 ATS as the underdog this season while the Colts to the deathly West coast.
    • Last Week:: 0-0 Straight Up, and 0-0 Against the Spread
    • Season:: 44-33 Straight Up, and 37-40 Against the Spread
  • NFL Week 7:
    • Seattle over Arizona (+6.5), but take the points. Arizona has fared better at home, and Seattle is not as good on the road.
    • Falcons over Tampa (+7.5), but take the points. With 1 win between them, it’s hard to give up 7.5 points.
    • Carolina over Rams (+6.5), but take the points. Carolina has done well at home, but Rams are averaging 36 points a game over last 2 games. Side note, Carolina has 3rd ranked D in NFL, and St. Louis has 29th ranked offense, despite recent surge in points.
    • Detroit over Bengals (+2.5). Detroit beat Cleveland, and Cleveland beat Cincy, so…
    • Chargers over Jags (+7.5), but take the points. Jags are showing some rebound from horrific start, and Chargers have 28th ranked D.
    • Fins over Bills (+8.5), but take the points. Bills are 4-2 as the under dog this season, giving the Bengals a scare just last week. Fins have bad front line.
    • Patriots over Jets (+4.5). Jets still lack identity, despite having a better record against the spread than New England.
    • Dallas (+2.5) over Philly. Eagles have 3rd best Offense in league compared to Dallas 29th ranked Defense, but Cowboys have more firepower.
    • Skins over Chicago (+1.5). Skins at home has to mean something, right?
    • Niners over Tennessee (+4.5), but take the points. Tennessee seems to play close games, even with Locker out.
    • Baltimore (+1.5) over pittsburgh. Ravens will struggle, but find a way to win. They are 3-1 as the dog this season.
    • Packers over Browns (+10.5). Browns lost to Lions by 14, and Packers beat Lions by 13.
    • Chiefs over Houston (+6.5). Houston is completely lost on Offense right now, despite having #1 Defense in NFL.
    • Denver over Indy (+6.5). Denver doesn’t play close games.
    • Giants over Vikings (+3.5). They combine for a 1-10 record, showing the neither team, but with the Vikings 31st ranked Defense, Eli should find enough holes to win and cover.
  • MLB (3-3)
    • Cleveland over Rays, and then Boston over Cleveland. Cleveland is hottest team right now, but Boston is very tough this year. Rays beat Cleveland, now but Boston Advanced.
    • Oakland over Tigers. Oakland has their money ball rolling again. A’s blow 2-1 series lead.
    • Reds over Pirates, and then Cards over Reds. Pirates edged Cincy in the final season series, but Reds will find what it takes. Cards are best of the NL. Period. Pirates beat Reds, but Cardinals dominate game 5 to advance.
    • Dodgers over Atlanta. Dodgers took a while to heat up, but then clobbered the West. Atlanta has been inching along. Dodgers heading to NLCS
    • Red Sox over Tigers. In regular season, Red Sox took 2 of 3 in Fenway, but lost 3 of 4 at Tiger Stadium, but Red Sox have home field advantage. Expect Sox in 7.
    • Cardinals over Dodgers. St. Louis took 2 of 3 in LA, and 3 of 4 at home in the regular season. Look for Cardinals to make quick work of the Dodgers.
