Iggy’s Baltimore Sports Report – November 19, 2013

Ravens:
Ray Rice finally got running against the 31st Rush Defense in the league. It wasn’t enough. 2 turnovers and the inability to punch the ball into the end zone with 30 seconds left from inside the 5 did us in. Don’t get me started about the 2 hour delay that blew a storm front through Chicago, and all the momentum out of our sails. Flacco’s trademarked inconsistency, and our inability to move the ball on the regular basis continued to plague us in what is becoming one of the worst defenses of a Super Bowl title. With that said, we are 1 game out of a wild card spot, and one analyst figures that when push comes to shove, it will be us or “them.” And we don’t want “them” making an appearance. Our job is clear now: Win at ALL cost.

Orioles:
Chris Davis came in a disappointing third place in league MVP voting. Cabrera and Trout scored better on the “all around” scale to edge out Davis… The Orioles signed LA Dodger minor leaguer Kelvin De La Cruz (25) to a major league contract. He was 3-1 with a 2.89 ERA in 47 appearances over 62 1/3 innings for Triple-A Albuquerque and dominates left handed hitters, but has no major league experience yet… Orioles signed 5 other minor league players.

Alouettes
In a weekend of upsets, visiting Hamilton took out Toronto 36-24, and will face underdog Saskatchewan, who defeated Calgary 35-13 in Calgary, for the Grey Cup next Sunday.

Blast:
The Blast won their season opener 19-8 over Rochester and will host Milwaukee for their first home game on Saturday.

Chesapeake Bayhawks: (Home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium)
Supplemental Draft to take place on December 4. (Nothing new)

Charm:
Nothing to Report.

Capitals (See website for more details):
With 3 straight wins, the Caps briefly overtook Pittsburgh by 1 point for first place in the Metropolitan division at 12-8-1, before the Pens won last night.

Wizards (See website for more details):
The Wizards (3-7), broke their 4 game losing streak with a win tonight.

Mystics (See website for more details):
Nothing to report.

D.C.United (See website for more details):
Nothing to report.

What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Actually, never mind. No one is reading this anyway so you probably won’t know the difference. Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!

Iggy’s Predictions

“Past performance does not guarantee future success, but it sure is the way to bet!”

  • NFL Week 11:
    • Indy over Tennessee (+2.5). Locker out for the season. Colts barely win by 3
    • Baltimore (+2.5) over Bears. Baltimore is 4-2 as the underdog, and the Bears are 1-4 (failing to cover 3 times) as the favorite. We should have won that game. This too shall haunt us.
    • Jets (+1.5) over Bills. Jets seem to find ways to win games. Jets self destruct and bench QB.
    • Bengals over Browns (+5.5), but take the points. Heck, after playing them back to back, you might even want to take the Browns to win! Browns looked good early, but then the wheels feel off the wagon.
    • Houston over Oakland (+6.5), but take the points. Houston is 0-4 as the favorite this season. Oakland shows how bad Houston has gotten.
    • Zona over Jax (+6.5), but take the points. Jacksonville has been playing good lately, but will they let up after getting that first win? Jacksonville had the early lead, but it wasn’t enough to even cover the spread in the end.
    • Eagles over Skins (+3.5). Both teams rate in the bottom 6 worst defenses in the NFL. Eagles go up 24-0, but giving skins some false hope.
    • steelers (+2.5) over Lions. Very difficult to get a win in pittsburgh. Lions are now 1-12-1 all time against the steelers.
    • Tampa (+1.5) over Atlanta. Why wasn’t this moved to the Sunday Night game? Atlanta actually made Tampa look good, and that is hard to do.
    • Miami (+1.5) over San Diego. Despite the bad press, Fins are the better team. Fins win at home.
    • Saints over Niners (+2.5). Niners couldn’t score on Carolina, and sure won’t win a shoot out in New Orleans. Took a last second field goal for Saints.
    • Seattle over Minnesota (+13.5), but take the points. Not even Seattle can shut down AP. Looked like Vikes were gonna cover there for a while, but it was in Seattle after all
    • Giants over Packers (+6.5), but take the points. Even without a legit QB, GB will find a way to keep it close. Giants aren’t that big right now. Packers really miss their QB.
    • Denver over KC (+8.5), but take the points. When is the last time a team was 9-0 and got 7+ points? Denver kept to lowest scoring night of the season, as they are held under 30 for the 2nd straight week.
    • Carolina over Pats (+2.5). Carolina’s 2nd rated defense will make Brady cry, but then again, a lot of things make Brady cry. Well, Brady cried, but he cried foul at the refs.
    • Last Week:: 12-3 Straight Up, and 8-7 Against the Spread
    • Season:: 101-61 Straight Up, and 73-89 Against the Spread
  • NFL Week 12:
    • Saints over Atlanta (+8.5). Saints are 6-2 ATS, and the Falcons are 0-5.
    • Ravens over Jets (+3.5), but take the points. Ravens are tough at home, but can’t put anyone away.
    • squealers (+2.5) over Brownies. Last week, I would have taken the Browns, but after a total collapse against the bungles, I think not.
    • Lions over Bucs (+9.5). Lions at home should put a hurting on the Bucs.
    • Vikings (+4.5) over Packers. No Rodgers, no vote of confidence.
    • Houston over Jags (+10.5), but take the points. Too many points for two failing teams.
    • Carolina over Fins (+4.5). Carolina is a contender, Dolphins are a pretender.
    • KC over San Diego (+5.5), but take the points. Chargers are 5-1 as the Dog this season.
    • Bears (+1.5) over Rams. I know that this is St. Louis, but the Bears are doing better in general.
    • Colts (+2.5) over Cards. Both teams are 3-0 ATS. You pick.
    • Tennessee (+1.5) over Raiders. I researched, and researched, and then flipped a coin.
    • Dallas (+2.5) over Giants. Giants beat the Packers, but anyone could when they are missing Rodgers.
    • Denver over NE (+2.5). NE is over-rated. Denver will prove it.
    • SF over skins (+5.5). SF is 6-2 ATS, and Washington is 1-4.
