Iggy’s Baltimore Sports Report – December 31, 2013

Ravens:
Game over, man. Game over! Now, the early starting off-season will be filled with efforts to avoid making the same mistakes (Boldin) made last off-season that probably was enough to cost us a playoff berth. The opportunity was there for the taking, and we failed to execute due to an undersized front line, and lack of a “go to” receiver. The Defense progressed nicely throughout the season, and should continue a dominant presence for years to come.

Now the bantering from my squealer friend started after the Ravens lost, but boy was he quiet after San Diego finally posted the W. His comeback from there was that they started 0-4 and finished above the Ravens. Well, that is true, but now the Ravens pick ahead of pittsburgh in the draft, while BOTH teams are sitting at home watching the playoffs. Personally, I think we made out on that deal, although our position of 16 or 17 overall will be decided via a coin toss with Dallas.

Orioles:
Nothing to report.

Alouettes
off-season transactions are flying about.

Blast:
The Blast (4-2) visit Pennsylvania tonight, and then host Missouri and Pennsylvania on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

Chesapeake Bayhawks: (Home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium)
Nothing to report.

Charm:
Nothing to Report.

Capitals (See website for more details):
The Caps maintained 2nd place, but have now lost 4 of last 5. They are 14 points behind pittsburgh, and in a 3 way tie for 5th spot in the conference.

Wizards (See website for more details):
The Wizards (14-14) have now won 5 of the last 6 games. They are 3rd in their division, and 5th in the conference.

Mystics (See website for more details):
Nothing to report.

D.C.United (See website for more details):
Nothing to report.

What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Actually, never mind. No one is reading this anyway so you probably won’t know the difference. Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!

Iggy’s Predictions

“Past performance does not guarantee future success, but it sure is the way to bet!”

  • NFL Week 17:
    • Baltimore (+5.5) over Cincinnati. I have to blieve, Hon! I wanted to believe…
    • Carolina over Atlanta (+7.5), but take the points. Panthers are in the playoffs; Atlanta has covered 4 straight. …make that 5 straight!
    • pittsburgh over Browns (+6.5). Stats say to take the points, but the Browns have given up, and the steelers aren’t dead yet. Browns stopped trying after they beat the Ravens in Week 9
    • Indy over Jax (+11.5), but take the points. Colts blew out Jags earlier this season, but have nothing to play for with little hope of improving their playoff standings. Indy showed they are ready for the playoffs
    • Fins over Jets (+6.5), but take the points. Fins are 1-4 as a favorite this season, while the Jets are 6-4 as the dog. Rex Ryan tried helping us out. We refused.
    • Minnesota over Lions (+3.5). Two teams with nothing to play for. Took home team. Vikings win at home, but fail to cover.
    • Saints over Tampa (+12.5). Saints need win to make playoffs. Saint win big.
    • Giants over Skins (+3.5). Neither team going anywhere, and last couple skins games have gone down to the very end. Skins gave up early.
    • Titans over Houston (+6.5). Houston won in week 2 for 1 of their 2 wins, but they just want this season to end. Neither team wanted this one.
    • Bears over Packers (+6.5), but take the points. Bears will clinch at home, as Packers show they aren’t playoff material for second straight week. Rodgers is back!
    • Pats over Bills (+9.5), but take the points. Bills gave Pats troubles earlier this season. Pats stay at 2 seed with win.
    • Niners over Cards (+3.5), but take the points. Niners have dreams of division title, but Cards need win (and luck) for playoff hopes. Niners kick last minute FG to win it, keep Cards out of playoffs.
    • Broncos over Raiders (+12.5), but take the points. Broncos need win to keep Home Field advantage, but Raider could present some resistance. Broncos set record for most points in a season.
    • Chargers over Chiefs (+9.5), but take the points. KC has nothing to gain, but shouldn’t let Chargers run up the score either. Despite resting most key starts, Chiefs almost won, which would have send the steelers to the playoffs. Fortunately, the Refs don’t know the rules, otherwise KC would have had a second chance at time expiring FG attempt.
    • Seattle over Saint Louis (+10.5). Seattle needs win to clinch division Title, and home field advantage. Seattle locks up 1 seed.
    • Philly over Dallas (+6.5). Dallas is 5-1 as the underdog, while Philly is 4-6 as the favorite. However, with Romo likely out, I’ll go with Philly, despite the stats. Failed 2 point conversation by Dallas leaves Eagles with 2 point win, division.
    • Last Week:: 13-3 Straight Up, and 8-8 Against the Spread
    • Season:: 160-96 Straight Up, and 124-132 Against the Spread
  • NFL Wild Card Games:
    • 4. Indy over 5. KC (+2.5). Colts won 23-7 over KC in KC during Week 16.
    • 3. Philly over 6. Saints (+2.5). Saints at home is something to fear, but this game is in Philly.
    • 3. Cincy over 6. SD (+6.5), but take the points. Chargers are 7-1 when coming in as the underdog.
    • 5. SF over 4. GB (+2.5). Although Rodgers is back, SF presents a more complete team.
