Iggy’s Baltimore Sports Report – January 14, 2014

Ravens:
Finally, some resolution. Caldwell is hired as Head Coach of Detroit Lions, as I was expecting, and it appears secondary coach Teryl Austin is going with him to be their new Defensive Coordinator. It’s not that I was wanting him to go, it’s that I was wanting it resolved. The Limbo of not knowing if we should move forward with Caldwell as OC in the off-season planning, or interview replacements was paralyzing this time of the year. Although we have to replace these guys, at least we know what work needs to be done. Ravens have vowed to resolve the issue of a top tier receiver in the off-season, and, oh, by the way, Boldin is a Free Agent. Not saying it will be him, just stating facts.

Orioles:
Orioles continue to stock up on has beens and not yets in their hopes of fielding a winner. Key holes are still mostly empty as they head into an off-season mini-camp.

Alouettes
2 more guys signed this week, but the flurry of activity should be slowing now.

Blast:
The Blast (7-2) actually had 13 days off. They host St. Louis on Friday and travel to Syracuse on Sunday.

Chesapeake Bayhawks: (Home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium)
Hawks pick up 8 players in the college draft, and they have acquired MLL standout midfielder Stephen Peyser in a trade with the Machine. Ohio will receive the 2015 2nd round Collegiate Draft pick and the 2015 1st round Supplemental Draft pick. Season opens April 26 at Boston.

Charm:
Nothing to Report.

Capitals (See website for more details):
The Caps have earned 5 points in the last 3 games, but are stilled tied for 2nd, now with the Rangers. They are 17 points behind pittsburgh, and in a tie for 5th spot in the conference.

Wizards (See website for more details):
The Wizards (17-19) broke a 2 game losing streak, and now sit in 3rd place in the division, 5th in the conference.

Mystics (See website for more details):
Nothing to report.

D.C.United (See website for more details):
D.C. United announced that the club has traded homegrown defender Ethan White and the top spot in the allocation ranking to the Philadelphia Union for defender Jeff Parke and the number six spot in the allocation order.

What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Actually, never mind. No one is reading this anyway so you probably won’t know the difference. Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!

Iggy’s Predictions

“Past performance does not guarantee future success, but it sure is the way to bet!”

  • NFL Divisional Games:
    • 1. Seattle over 6. New Orleans (+8.5). Seattle in Seattle? No problem. Seattle wins, but does not cover.
    • 4. Colts (+7.5) over 2. Pats. After last week, the Colts obviously have a horse shoe jammed some place. Let’s not look too hard to see where! NE played with the Colts until early 4th quarter when they scored 2 quick TDs, to put the game out of reach
    • 2. Panthers (+2.5) over 5. SF. Panthers won 10-9 in SF earlier this season, and should shut down the SF offense again at home. Niners are clicking at the right time.
    • 6. Chargers (+9.5) over 1. Denver. Going out on a limb, but the Chargers found a way to defeat Manning in Denver already once this season, and I think they can do it again. Chargers too little, too late.
    • Last Week:: 1-3 Straight Up, and 1-3 Against the Spread
    • Season:: 163-101 Straight Up, and 128-136 Against the Spread
  • NFL Conference Championship Games:
    • Pats (+4.5) over Denver. Okay, here me out. After a fast start, Denver has been struggling to put away teams lately, meanwhile the Pats have been putting up a lot of points, especially late in the game. Momentum is with the Pats.
    • Niners (+3.5) over Hawks. Another wild pick, but once again, Seattle may have the number 1 defense, but their offense has struggled to put up TDs, leaving many games closer than they should be. Niners have ridden emotional wins against the Packers in zero degree temperatures, and then a revenge victory over the upstart Panthers. They can play in any conditions right now, and Seattle does not intimidate them.
