Iggy’s Baltimore Sports Report – October 28, 2014

Ravens:
The “touch foul” pass interference was only the culmination of bad play by the Ravens. Poor play calling and execution with 4th and goal at the one, turnovers, and giving up a long play on 3rd and 10 after claiming the lead all contributed to the loss as much as the penalty that should never have been called in today’s offense-happy no fun league. Some would say that if it weren’t for bad luck, we wouldn’t have had any luck at all. Bottom line is that we failed again against a good team, leaving a majority of our wins against the pansy bed wetting NFC South division. The stealers on Sunday night is a must win game, as brainlessburger is coming off a career performance against a colts team that done did us in 3 games ago. With more injuries than Janay Palmer, the offensive line and defense sure needs a break that they won’t get this weekend, unless you count the potential for broken bones. Expect another hard hitting, grueling match, but pray that ben doesn’t turn our secondary into the Swiss cheese that we already know they are, before the injuries started mounting.

Orioles:
The O’s have a lot of work to be done to sign the free agents they want to keep. Cruz is the biggest target, but a lot of key pieces are expected to be “walking” when free agency starts. The free agent list includes Cruz (wanted back), Johan Santana (Gone), Nick Hundley (Gone), Kelly Johnson (?), Andrew Miller (Gone unless the O’s make him the closer), and Delmon Young (expected to get a multi-year deal, but not here). The arbitration list isn’t pretty either with Chris Davis, De Aza, Hunter, Matusz, Norris, Pearce, and Wieters all due up. Another run next year will require a lot of homework to duplicate this years success, as the O’s continue to play money-ball and hope the pieces some how fit together.

Alouettes
The Montreal Alouettes (8-8) hung on for a 23-17 win over league worst Ottawa (2-14) on Friday, to claim sole possession of First place. The Als will host Toronto (7-9) this week in hopes of maintaining that position atop the dung heap, aka Eastern Division, in an attempt to create some space between them and Toronto and Hamilton, who is also 7-9.

Mariners
Nothing to report as the 2015 season remains in question as the battle with the Baltimore Arena remains an issue.

Blast:
First game is November 8.

Chesapeake Bayhawks: (Home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium)
2015 Season tickets now on sale.

Charm:
Nothing to Report.

Capitals (See website for more details):
Caps (4-2-2, 10 Points) have slumped a little, to fall into a tie for 2nd place, 2 points behind the Islanders.

Wizards (See website for more details):
Wizards open Wednesday night in Miami. First home game is Saturday against Milwaukee.

Mystics (See website for more details):
Nothing to report.

D.C.United (See website for more details):
United (17-9-8) await the start of the playoffs, as they muddle through the remaining games.

What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Actually, never mind. No one is reading this anyway so you probably won’t know the difference. Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!

Iggy’s Predictions

“Past performance does not guarantee future success, but it sure is the way to bet!”

  • Week 8:
    • Denver over SD (+7.5), but take the points. SD is 3-0 as the underdog this season, while Denver has failed to cover twice. Taking points was a bad idea this week
    • Baltimore (+1.5) over Cincy. Bengals are in a slump, while Ravens have a chip on their shoulder from the opener. … What could have been
    • Detroit over Atlanta (+3.5). Two teams going in opposite directions, but both in London this weekend. A case where I should have taken the points.
    • KC over Rams (+6.5), but take the points. Rams are 3-2 as the underdog. KC won, but not even close. Rams must have blown their wad against Seattle last week.
    • Houston over Tennessee (+1.5). Houston 3-1 as the favorite, and looking to erase that Monday debacle. A rare win for me.
    • Minnesota (+2.5) over Tampa. Minnesota could cash in against the worst D in the NFL. Took OT, but Minnesota finally eked this one out.
    • Seattle over Carolina (+4.5). Seattle still embarrassed from St.Louis loss last weekend. Somehow, Carolina stayed close enough to cover.
    • Miami over Jax (+5.5). Jags won a fluke game last week. Miami consistently better. Miami wins, covers.
    • Pats over Chicago (+6.5), but take the points. Long shot here, but NE has failed to cover twice, while Chicago is 3-2 as the underdog. Patriots blow them out.
    • Jets over Bills (+2.5). Bills suffering injury bug, and Jets are better than their record. Bad idea. Jets really are that bad.
    • Cards over Phils (+2.5). Arizona Desert is not a Dessert for Eagles. Cards win late on what turned out to be a very good game.
    • Cleveland over Oakland (+7.5), but take the points. Raiders have covered twice as the dog; Browns not used to being favored. Cleveland wins and covers.
    • Indy over pittsburgh (+3.5). Colts 5-1 as the favored. Hopefully, stealers have shot their load.
    • Packers (+1.5) over Saints. Am I missing something? 2-4 Saints over 5-2 Packers? Saint got medieval on Packers in 2nd half.
    • Dallas over Skins (+9.5). Dallas usually wins by 10+, while skins usually lose by 10+. WTF!
    • This Week: 10-5 Straight Up and 4-11 Against the Spread
    • Season: 72-48-1 Straight Up and 54-67 Against the Spread
  • Week 9:
    • Carolina (+2.5) over Saints. Saints can’t handle being favored.
    • Browns over Bucs (+6.5) Tampa really is that bad.
    • Arizona (+4.5) over Boys. Doesn’t anyone believe that Cards are real this year?
    • Philly over Houston (+2.5). Eagles need a rebound after the Desert.
    • KC over Jets (+9.5), but take the points. Jets have covered twice so far this year as the underdog. Those points are enough for me to pick the Jets.
    • Bengals over Jags (+11.5). Jags needs more than that to win.
    • Chargers (+1.5) over Fins. SD is 3-1 as the Underdog.
    • Potatoes (+2.5) over Vikings. Washington ain’t bad enough to lose to MN.
    • Niners over Rams (+9.5), but take the points. Rams always play SF tough, and Niners are 2-4 as the Favorite this year.
    • Denver over Pats (+3.5). Shoot out of the week.
    • Seattle over Raiders (+15.5). Seattle isn’t the dominant team they were last year.
    • squealors over Ravens (+.5). Oh, look… Prime time game in putzburg. Where is my shocked face?
    • Colts over Giants (+3.5) Should I predict a 23-17 OT final?
  • MLB: (4-4)
    • World Series: SF over KC in 7. 2 hot teams that can win on the road. Flip a coin. The Odds makers did! Looks like they are headed to Game 7, with KC up 8-0 early in Game 6.
