Iggy’s Baltimore Sports Report – September 17, 2013

Ravens:
Better result, but it wasn’t pretty. 2 Missed field goals that could have come back to bite us, and allowing “Cleveland” to shred our secondary on a number of occasions. This young defense has a long way to come, and our schedule doesn’t get much easier than Cleveland.

I expect Rice to miss the next game, but that isn’t bad. Pierce has often been more effective when giving Rice a breather, now we will see what he can do as the premier back, assuming I am right about the injury, which appears to be a day-to-day issue, with a high chance of re-injury. Houston is next on the list, and they haven’t been the sharpened tool set so far, but then again, their opponents
the first two weeks might be better than predicted. The Ravens will have to play better to beat Houston, and I am not sure we are capable of that yet.

Orioles:
As the Orioles continue to battle mediocrity, they need a seriously long win streak, and NOW. There is no more future. 13 games remaining and in the middle of 6 teams fighting for 2 wild card spots. If they don’t elevate their game against Boston (6 games), Tampa (4 games), and Toronto (3 games), there is no tomorrow for this season.

If the Playoffs started today…
Rank American National
1 Boston Atlanta
2 Oakland St. Louis
3 Detroit Los Angeles
WC1 Tampa Bay Pittsburgh
WC2 Texas Cincinnati

Alouettes
The Als (4-7, 3rd, 3GB) Lost 36-14 to BC on the Road on Sunday. Next game is Saturday, at Hamilton (5-6, 2nd)

Blast:
2013-14 Schedule has been released.

Chesapeake Bayhawks: (Home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium)
Nothing to report.

Charm:
Nothing to Report.

Capitals (See website for more details):
Caps host Bruins in Baltimore on Tuesday.

Wizards (See website for more details):
Wizards to host Knicks in Baltimore on October 17 for a preseason game. Individual game tickets now on sale… Wizards Restructure front office (A sure sign of a franchise without direction).

Mystics (See website for more details):
Mystics ended the season with a 3 game winning streaking and a #3 seed. They start a best of 3 series against #2 Atlanta on Thursday.

D.C.United (See website for more details):
DC (3-19-6) tied LA 2-2, and travel to NE on Saturday.

What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Actually, never mind. No one is reading this anyway so you probably won’t know the difference. Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!

Iggy’s Predictions

“Past performance does not guarantee future success, but it sure is the way to bet!”

  • NFL Week 2:
    • Pats over Jets (+12.5), but take the points. Although Tom Brady is poised to run up the score on someone, 12.5 points is hard to give up this early in the season. New England is squeaking by so far this season. Is there reign finally coming to an end? Once can hope!
    • Ravens over Browns (+6.5). Prediction assumes that WR and TE will catch more passes then they drop. Failed to make assumptions about the kicking game!
    • Falcons over Rams (+6.5). Who honestly will take the Rams in this mismatch? Falcons let up, but still covered.
    • Carolina over Buffalo (+2.5). I expect a close game. Last minute effort had the Bills steal the victory.
    • Bears over Vikings (+6.5), but take the points. Two division rivals are closely matches. Bears win by 1.
    • Packers over skins (+7.5), but take the points. I would expect better of the skins than what they delivered last week, (although it was enjoyable to watch) Pack had it covered by half time, and then some.
    • Houston over Tennessee (+8.5), but take the points. Houston should but up better numbers this week, but Tennessee did hold the squealers to one mercy score. Tennessee might be better than everyone predicted
    • Colts over Fins (+2.5). Fins won last week, but that was against Cleveland. Fins seemed to have bought a few early victories with their off season acquisitions.
    • Chefs over Dallas (+2.5) KC could be a threat this year, but Jax was probably not much of a challenge in week 1. Chiefs win by 1.
    • Eagles over SD (+7.5), but take the points. Skins made the Eagles look good last week. Chargers made themselves look bad. San Diego comes east and wins by a FG.
    • Detroit over AZ (+1.5). Lions could be a force in the North this season. Cardinals score with less than 2 minutes left for the win.
    • Saints over TB (+3.5). Winning should be a Brees. Tampa couldn’t even beat the Jets. Bucs made a game of it, but still lost.
    • Broncos over Giants (+4.5). Manning was impressive last week. (Yeah, I did that on purpose) Hmmm… Who is gonna stop Peyton?
    • Raiders over Jax (+5.5). Battle of the have nots. Jax scores on offense finally… but not much.
    • Niners (+2.5) over Hawks. Seattle has a good D, but can they stop Boldin? Wow! Niners embarrassed worse than Ravens on Opening Night!
    • Cincinnati over pittsburgh (+6.5), but take the points. squealers aren’t as bad as everyone is saying. I am hoping for worse, but history tells me they will find a way to bounce back.
    • Last Week:: 10-6 Straight Up, and 8-8 Against the Spread
    • Season:: 19-13 Straight Up, and 16-16 Against the Spread
  • NFL Week 3:
    • Philadelphia over KC (+3.5), but take the points. Went with the home team. Hope I don’t regret that.
    • Houston over RAVENS (+2.5). Houston has yet to cover, but neither has our secondary (Cleveland doesn’t count).
    • Packers over Cincy (+2.5). Packers should win easily over a Bengals team that struggles to win, despite their talent.
    • Giants (+1.5) over Carolina. Eli to bounce back from 0-2 start with a win.
    • Dallas over Saint Louis (+3.5). Rams, Lambs… not much of a difference.
    • Minnesota over Cleveland (+5.5). Peterson to run all over them.
    • Pats over Tampa (+7.5), but take the points. Pats have won 2 games by a combined 5 points so far.
    • Saints over Zona (+7.5), but take the points. Cards are 2-0 as the underdog this season.
    • Tennessee over San Diego (+3.5), but take the points. Tennessee and San Diego are both surprise teams this year. Look for a close game.
    • Skins over Lions (+1.5). Gut tells me to go the other way, but skins are home, and Lions collapsed last week.
    • Miami over Atlanta (+1.5). Fins are actually looking decent.
    • Buffalo (+2.5) over Jets. Jets have more issues.
    • Niners over Colts (+10.5), but take the points. Too many points for the Luck-y Colts.
    • Seattle over Jacksonville (+19.5). History says to take almost 3 touchdowns, but what I have seen so far from the Jags indicates that it won’t be enough.
    • stealers (+2.5) over Bears. In Chicago, I would have taken the Bears.
    • Denver over Oakland (+14.5). Peyton is on a rampage.
