Iggy’s Baltimore Sports Report – October 8, 2013

Ravens:
A Raven’s Win! What is more important? Miami proved that they need an offensive line by giving up 6 sacks to the Ravens to lead the league in sacks allowed, while the Ravens are getting false hopes in their ability to run the ball. Suiting up only 3 WRs, the Ravens resigned Brandon Stokely today after cutting him on Saturday in a strategic move (?) that brought in an extra TE that we did not use. The Ravens are obviously in a high stakes poker match, trying to get the right personal on a per game basis, and they are going to need it this weekend against the ever dangerous Aaron Rodgers, who could mimic the week 1 debacle in Denver, if the Ravens can’t find a to tighten up their secondary, or further increase pressure on Rodgers, which could also be disastrous given his ability to throw on the run.

Orioles:
Nothing to report.

Alouettes
The Als (6-8, 3rd) ran the score to 40-3 early in the 4th quarter before giving up 3 mercy scores in a 47-24 romp of the Eskimos (3-11). Winnipeg (2-12) comes to Montreal for a visit next Monday.

Blast:
2013-14 Schedule has been released. (Nothing new to report)

Chesapeake Bayhawks: (Home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium)
Nothing to report.

Charm:
Nothing to Report.

Capitals (See website for more details):
The Caps have opened the season with a win and 2 losses.

Wizards (See website for more details):
Wizards to host Knicks in Baltimore on October 17 for a preseason game. Individual game tickets now on sale… Wizards Restructure front office (A sure sign of a franchise without direction).

Mystics (See website for more details):
Nothing to report.

D.C.United (See website for more details):
Despite their miserable season (3-22-6), the United managed to with the US Open cup through a series of victories throughout the season against both MLS and non-MLS foes. How bizarre is that? Oh, and they lost against last weekend to Chicago.

What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Actually, never mind. No one is reading this anyway so you probably won’t know the difference. Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!

Iggy’s Predictions

“Past performance does not guarantee future success, but it sure is the way to bet!”

  • NFL Week 5:
    • Cleveland over Bills (+4.5), but take the points. Will be a close game. Bills are in desperate needs of a QB
    • Miami over Ravens (+3.5), but take the points. I *hope* this will be a close game!!! Ravens get first road win, on the foot of Tucker.
    • Saints (+1.5) over Bears. After what the Saints did to the Fins, they favor the Bears, who got stomped by the Lions? Still don’t understand that line!
    • Pats (+1.5) over Cincy. Pats aren’t as good this year, but come on, Bengals lost to Cleveland. Cincy shutout Brady…
    • Packers over Lions (+6.5), but take the points. Lions looking good this year, but not great. Lions only got FGs. Don’t like that with GB coming to town.
    • Seattle over Indy (+2.5). More points could have enticed me. Indy pulls come from behind victory out of … somewhere.
    • Philly (+2.5) over Giants. Giants are terrible, you will see. Vick out several weeks with Foles leading the win.
    • Rams over Jags (+11.5), but take the points. Usually, I’d bail on any points given to Jax, but against St. Louis, I’m taking the bait. Jags *almost* covered. Gabbert out.
    • Chefs over Titans (+2.5). Locker is out. Tennessee come up strong, but KC pulled it out with several late scores.
    • Arizona (+2.5) over Carolina. This is in the Desert. Carolina held to a pair of 3’s.
    • Denver over Dallas (+7.5). How long before someone stops Peyton? Not this week. 2nd highest regular season, non-OT game since the merger.
    • Niners over Houston (+6.5). Points were intriguing, but Houston has had 2 losses in a row, and now travels to SF, who are coming off 10 days rest. Houston in death spiral.
    • Chargers over Raiders (+4.5). Oakland can’t even beat Washington… Chargers sucked into black hole.
    • Atlanta over Jets (+8.5). Atlanta looks to avenge last weeks prime time loss, and the Jets could be just what they need. Atlanta in worse death spiral than Houston. Atlanta’s #1 RB is now injured, and could be out a long while
    • Last Week:: 9-5 Straight Up, and 6-8 Against the Spread
    • Season:: 44-33 Straight Up, and 37-40 Against the Spread
  • NFL Week 6:
    • Bears over Giants (+7.5), but take the points. Giants are the victims of bad luck right now.
    • Packers over Ravens (+3.5), but take the points. I want to believe. Be the 12th man, Baltimore!
    • Bengals over Bills (+7.5). Points were tempting, but Bills are QB-less.
    • Browns (+2.5) over Lions. Yeah, you read that right.
    • Houston over Rams (+7.5). Houston, at home, needs this to keep season from going to the brink now.
    • Chiefs over Raiders (+9.5). Points were tempting, but Raiders are on the Road.
    • Vikings over Carolina (+2.5). Will anyone notice when this game ends?
    • stealers (+2.5) over Jets. They need this win before we face them next week.
    • Eagles over Bucs (+1.5). Two teams playing with a new QB this week.
    • Denver over Jags (+27.5). I expect Denver to run up the score before half time, and then play bench warmers the 2nd half, allow the Jags to barely cover in the biggest line since the merger.
    • Seattle over Tennessee (+13.5). Tennessee is good, but Seattle is at home, where they are a different team.
    • Saints (+2.5) over Pats. NE is overrated. period.
    • Niners over Arizona (+11.5), but take the points. Too many points in a division game that tends to give SF troubles.
    • Dallas over Washington (+5.5), but take the points. No shooting match this week for Romo, I don’t think.
    • San Diego (+1.5) over Indianapolis. Chargers are 5-0 ATS as the underdog this season while the Colts to the deathly West coast.
  • MLB (1-2)
    • Cleveland over Rays, and then Boston over Cleveland. Cleveland is hottest team right now, but Boston is very tough this year. Rays beat Cleveland, now face 2-1 hole against Boston.
    • Oakland over Tigers. Oakland has their money ball rolling again. A’s up 2-1.
    • Reds over Pirates, and then Cards over Reds. Pirates edged Cincy in the final season series, but Reds will find what it takes. Cards are best of the NL. Period. Pirates beat Reds, and Cardinals were able to force game 5.
    • Dodgers over Atlanta. Dodgers took a while to heat up, but then clobbered the West. Atlanta has been inching along. Dodgers heading to NLCS
