Iggy’s Baltimore Sports Report – May 11, 2014

Ravens:
Draft is over, and the Ravens did NOT trade down in the first round to acquire more picks, as I expected. They held their position and turned in another solid performance on the draft room floor, once again focusing on defense in a defense heavy division with 3 straight D-players to start their draft, and 4 out of 9 players total. The first round draft pick, CJ Mosely has great instinct and athleticism, as long as he can stay healthy, which could be a concern. Otherwise, they drafted someone to pencil in for all their needs going in. General consensus is that the Ravens and Steelers did equally well, while
Ohio was sub-par.

Orioles:
A season high 5 game winning streak ended Sunday, but not before the Orioles could launch themselves into first place. With Detroit coming to town, the O’s need to get their A-Game going to stay in first, however, and that could be a challenge with erratic pitching, and inconsistent hitting.

Alouettes
CFL has made Pass Interference a reviewable play… 9-time all star Scott Flory has announced his retirement after 15 years in the league… GM Jim Popp’s (Been with the team since they started in Baltimore) is recovering from a shark bite received while vacationing in Hilton Head, SC.

Mariners
Mariner’s (4-0) clubbed York like a baby seal, 61-26. Baltimore now visits 2nd place Cape Fear (5-1) on Saturday.

Blast:
Nothing to report.

Chesapeake Bayhawks: (Home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium)
The Bayhawks beat Long Island, but lost to Charlotte to drop to 1-2 on the season. They next host the Florida Launch.

Charm:
Charm (0-1) lost season opener to the Jacksonville Breeze 27-12. Next game is June 21 at Toledo.

Capitals (See website for more details):
Nothing to report.

Wizards (See website for more details):
Wizards are now down 2-1 to the Pacers.

Mystics (See website for more details):
First game is at home, May 16 against Minnesota.

D.C.United (See website for more details):
United (4-3-2) defeated Philly last weekend and will host Montreal next Saturday.

What do you want to see in the Ravens report? What should be scrapped? Actually, never mind. No one is reading this anyway so you probably won’t know the difference. Send an email to iggy at tealdragon.net. Thanks!
